Cruise Critic members treated to a ship tour fit for a Celebrity!

A group of Cruise Critic members recently gathered in (somewhat) sunny Southampton for a ship tour aboard Celebrity Cruises’ 2,850-passenger ship, Eclipse.

Here’s a round up of highlights from the day:

Cruise Critic is partnering with several cruise lines this year to run a series of ship tours, with the Celebrity Cruises ship visit being the second. The lucky Cruise Critic members headed to Southampton Port on July 5th, bringing friends and family members along to share the experience.

The day started with a 10am embarkation, with guests then joining a tour guide to be taken around the ship to explore. The Celebrity Cruise tour guides were highly knowledgeable and their passion for cruise and for the ship was infectious!

Ann Barbour, who attended the tour, said: “I just wanted to let you know what an amazing day we had on Saturday, and to thank you and your team so much for organising everything. Please pass on our thanks to Nick, our guide, who did a sterling job in getting us around the ship in record time!”

Another guest, David Hughes, commented: “The tour reinforced our opinion that Celebrity is our line of first choice but was also useful in demonstrating to our sons what cruising can be like, and not just for the “elderly!”

Following the tour, guests were treated to a wine tasting session in Cellar Masters. There was a white, rose and two red wines to taste (accompanied by a delicious plate of cheeses!), and one of Celebrity’s wine experts guided guests through the tasting journey, sharing some insight into the different varieties.

One plate of cheese and a glass (or few!) of wine later and it was time for a three-course lunch in the Moonlight Sonata, the ship’s main dining room. This restaurant area is simply stunning, and has a bright and spacious feel. The room makes great use of glass, which is the ship’s signature design element and features a two-story glass wine tower.

Some of the dishes on offer included a grilled shrimp Louis appetizer, a starter of wild forest mushroom soup, while main dishes included petit filet mignon or herb crusted haddock fillet, followed by a very gooey chocolate lava cake… all washed down with (more!) wine.

Commenting on the meal, Ann Barbour, said: “Our friends were suitably impressed, and took advantage of the Future Cruise sign up offer, so Celebrity has two more converts. Our fellow day tour-ers were a great bunch, so the lovely lunch provided was a very sociable affair, which just added to our overall enjoyment.”

David Hughes highlighted: “Our guests were very impressed.  Others on the table at lunch felt that the food was exceptional and thought it wouldn’t be as good if they were on a cruise with Celebrity, i.e. it was just that high quality for the visit.  We were able to assure these people that the food quality was the norm, and that we had experienced this on many Celebrity ships.”

Overall, it was an enjoyable day for all, and guests were made to feel incredibly welcome as soon as they stepped onboard the ship.

John Didcote concluded: “We have just got back home from attending the ship visit today on Celebrity Eclipse. On behalf of the four of us in my party, I want to thank you very much for a most enjoyable time. The ship is lovely and the arrangements, meal and guide were excellent. It was our first experience of Celebrity and we were all very impressed. We look forward to booking a holiday on this wonderful ship soon.”
