Danny Burns, the besotted Brit who posted the video above, arranged a unique shore excursion for his long-term girlfriend and fellow cruise ship entertainer Shonagh Daly.
The 36-year-old Sheffield native led a group of performers from Cunard’s Queen Victoria in a choreographed flash-mob routine that ended with a marriage proposal.
The group danced to the Hall and Oates song ‘ You Make My Dreams Come True’ before Danny knelt down on one knee and produced an engagement ring in front of hundreds of tourists.
The good news is, she said yes.
Both of the couple’s families were on hand to witness the proposal. Danny’s father, Philip, videoed the performance and both Danny’s and Shonagh’s mums, Linda Burns and Ena Daly, joined in on the dancing.
The biggest problem, according to Danny’s interview in the Sheffield Star, was keeping it a secret.
“It seems everyone on the ship apart from Shonagh knew what was going on,” Danny told the paper. “We live in each other’s pockets on the ship and I had to tell Shonagh I was going to the gym when I went off to rehearse.”
But Shonagh said the proposal was a complete surprise.
“I didn’t see it coming at all,” she said. “Danny is obviously a better actor than I gave him credit for and not a bad mover either. It was the best day of my life.”
Ah, love. Ain’t it grand? Our congratulations go out to the lovely couple.
