Hot on the heels of Carnival telling the world that the Aussies drink far more wine on board the “Aussified” Carnival Spirit than their US counterparts (who’d have thought?), now P&O Australia has revealed that…wait for it – the Aussies are eating an astonishing amount of ice cream onboard the line’s three ships.
Passengers onboard Pacific Dawn, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl have consumed a whopping 100,000 scoops of ice cream since New Zealand Natural ice cream parlours were introduced across the fleet last year.
That’s averages out at 1,300 scoops of ice cream per day which are finding their way into cones, sundaes, milkshakes and thickshakes.
According to P&O, passengers’ favourite flavours are Cookies and Cream followed by Chocolate Ecstasy, Chocolate Hokey Pokey and Vanilla.
This is all very interesting and worthwhile, but what we’d really like to know is – how does this all stack up with P&O Cruises passengers in the UK?
We’re pretty confident that we could beat the Aussies at ice cream eating, but that’s not our primary concern.
How about some pie statistics? Or the amount of fish ‘n’ chips consumed or beer drunk by passengers across the entire P&O UK fleet?
Until we have those stats, here’s the Aussies vs. US counterparts, according to Carnival:
• Drink five times as much coffee
• Drink twice as many gin and tonics
• Eat 25 per cent less chocolate cake
• Eat 10kg more salmon per day
• Drink more Sauvignon Blanc
• Exercise more
• More sun conscious
• Complain less
• Want to spend more time with family and eat together
• Both love Corona
• Drink less iced tea
• Prefer a dining “experience” and spend longer eating
• More laidback
• Enjoy more seaweed spa treatments

Did a RCCL cruise out of Sydney two years ago–29 days–probably the most pleasant group of passengers I have ever experienced. Love travelling with the Aussies!!! Oye oye oye!!
