We were curious to find out how cruise lines create the mood for love on this, the most romantic of days.
In a brief and extremely unscientific poll we checked in with two lines – Fred. Olsen and Celebrity Cruises – to see what they might be planning.
And we were very pleasantly surprised to discover that Fred. Olsen always celebrates St. Valentine’s Day in great style across its fleet.
Guests onboard all four of its ships will be able to enjoy a romantic atmosphere, and each ship will interpret the theme in its own individual way.
So for example, the bars and restaurants are decked out in red and white, and the romantic theme is reflected in the daily quiz, evening entertainment and the food, with heart-shaped cakes for tea and special St. Valentine’s cocktails in the bars. There is a Valentine’s-themed dinner as well, with a matching dress code, such as ‘Hint of Red’ to inspire passengers’ imaginations.
Continuing the foodie theme, Celebrity has a Valentine’s-inspired menu in its speciality restaurants which includes Rosé champagne, various dishes for two and dishes with lots of red ingredients.
Sounds lovely, but we’re curious to know – what’s the romantic gesture you have done on a cruise?
Tell us below – and the one we think is the most romantic gets a heart-shaped box of chocolates…with love from us.

Placing rose pedals all over our entrance to our room and on the bed, special flower arrangement in the room, chocolate, with our favorite romantic music playing…vegetarian dinner for two with heart shaped romantic plate decor, red smoothies, chocolate, dancing under the stars, then a hot tub splash for two with flowers around the hot tub, then back to the room for whatever may romanticly happen.

Simply being onboard a cruise, spending time toge, ther in great locations, and being with the one you love and care about naturally makes it romantic. Holding hands as you walk around the ship or in an exotic port, being able to stand on deck or on your balcony together at night and look up st the stars, and just being together without the hassles of everyday life … romance beyond compare. Enjoying each other with true love in mind is romantic in itself.

On my 30th Anniversary I made up a cake topper and had the ship’s baker put it on the cake. They made us the most beautiful cake and placed the topper on the cake and surprised my husband with it at dinner. It was a very special dinner!!!

Our lives are stressful and crazy! When we cruise that is “our time” and we get to focus on us. We try to go over our anniversary even though it is hurricane season. The private specialty dinners are romantic and special for us. Getting dressed up and holding hands. We always make sure to spend time in the spa for a couples massage. How can one not be romantic in such exotic places in the caribbean? Toasting glasses of champagne as we sail away and enjoy the beautiful view! We are so relaxed and happy on a cruise that the romance just follows.

When my hubby and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary on Oasis of the Seas, I bought new lingerie for every day of the cruise and surprised him every night
