My wife and I travelled on the Costa Favalosa out of Venice on 23 September 2012 and visited Bari, Katakolon, Izmir, Istanbul and Dubrovnik. We had a standard inside cabin on Deck 7.

We initially chose this cruise because it fitted in with other plans we had in Europe. Having had read some of the previous reviews, we were concerned we had made a grave mistake, particularly in relation to the smoking as we are both committed non-smokers. After having now completed the cruise, I can say those concerns were unfounded and we found the whole experience very good.

We stayed in a hotel in Venice (Mestre) for two nights prior to the cruise. This was a good decision as the hotel (Hotel Tritone) was good quality and at a much more reasonable price that staying at a hotel in Venice proper. On the day of the cruise, we caught the train to the St Lucia Train Station with the intention of dragging the suitcases over to the Piazzale Roma and then catching the People Mover to the cruise terminal.

Cabin Review

We had a standard inside cabin (stateroom) on Deck 7. It had a king sized bed, plenty of cupboard space and a reasonable bathroom. It was spotlessly clean and tidy. The cabin steward did a great job of keeping the place clean and serviced and it was great to find the bed made perfectly whenever we returned to the cabin. I have noticed a number of complaints about the cabin drawer handles. These are reasonable complaints as they really are difficult to open and you would have to wonder why they were chosen. They comprise of a small loop and you really need something to put in the loop to help you grab it.

Finding room for two large suitcases was a bit of an issue but not really worth worrying about. For what is supposed to be the cheapest cabin on the ship, I thought it was pretty damn good.
