As an engineer who checked out naval ships during sea trials, I followed the construction of Oasis of the Seas and wanted to experience her first hand. Oasis is unbelievably stable in rough seas. The captain chose to avoid Hurricane Sandy that formed while we were in St. Martins by using the southern passage around the Bahamas. We were a couple of hundred miles south of the eye off the Cuban coast and the ship was remarkable stable in 40-50 knot winds. It was almost twice as wide as the three other large cruise ships we saw in St Martins. We watched tankers and freighters rocking and rolling off the coast of Cuba and we hardly felt any roll ourselves. Except on one rainy day when the main concourse was very crowded, there were no other times it felt no different from other cruises with respect to crowds.

The shows were wonderful. Hairspray had the two past leads from the NY stage. Food was very good though not outstanding and we did not pay for the restaurants that cost extra, except Izumi. We liked it so much we had two dinners there instead of the one we had reserved in advance. If you like sushi, it is excellent with great presentation. Lunch in the Solarium is geared to healthy foods and was really a treat. Sorry we did not discover it earlier. There was always something to do at sea so we were never bored. Except when a show let out, there was never a wait for an elevator. Our Island tours were great. We went snorkeling in the Virgin Islands and round the island tour on St. Martins. Visit friends in Nassau rather than do the tourist thing. Yes, I would do it again, but perhaps on Allure of the Seas to the western Caribbean next time. We took Princess Diamond to Alaska two years ago and I might give Princess a score of 98 while giving a 95 to Royal Caribbean, and both we would use both again.
