After flying for 12+ hours, we were greeted at the airport in Basel, Switzerland by Viking employees who informed us that the river was too high in Basel and we couldn't board the ship there. We were going to be taken to the ship which was docked in Breisach, Germany by bus. We waited 2 hours in the airport for the bus and then had another 1 hour ride. If Viking knew of this problem, why wasn't the transportation already waiting for us at the airport????
We arrived at the ship and took our luggage to cabin. We then proceeded to the lounge to try to get some lunch. When we arrived, they were clearing all of the food. They said that lunch was over. I said what do you mean? We haven't had anything to eat. Basically, I was told "too bad." We tried to find a restaurant open in Breisach within walking distance but could not. We waited until dinner. The food was HORRIBLE!
The second night on the ship, we crashed into an embankment. We were told not to speak to the press who were waiting when we were escorted on to another ship to take us to a bus to drive us to Strousburg, France. This trip became more of a motor coach tour than anything.
Horrible accommodations. 2 twin beds pushed together but all linens were single. Very loud and noisy.
