This is my 19th cruise on 8 cruise lines to give you some perspective. The Ryndam is a small ship which overall does things right. If you want a quieter, more relaxing cruise experience in direct contrast to the Mega ship experience, then this class of ship is good for you. Entertainment in the lounges was varied and good, and the library / reading room is the largest and nicest I have seen. An adjacent coffee shop was well visited. The "main" showroom entertainment was of average quality and variety. The remodel of the public spaces was tasteful and well done. Cabins could use some updating, but are functional and slightly larger than other lines.

Holland by stereotype, appeals to an "older" crowd and I would agree. But "more mature" can be a good thing too! Travelers with good manners and decent attire are becoming rarer and rarer, so I appreciated this. The small things Holland does like free hot appetizers during happy hour, well done deck events (food, drink), limited announcements over the 1MC (intercom) are all appreciated. There was no ice carving by the pool, or Hairy chest contest, etc......if you are a frequent cruiser, this is a good thing! If you want loud music and a big movie screen by the pool, groups of maundering cocktailers, noise in the hallways late at night....you need to find another ship. Both have their merits.

Many ships no longer have a promenade deck that has chairs to sit and read. I find this a horrible trend, and the Ryndam had chairs all around, and they were constantly well used by grateful cruisers. It is this type of "old style" experience which is slowly disappearing on many larger ships.
