We sailed on that ill fated voyage Pullmantur Sovereign Saturday, May 10, 2014 out of Barcelona. The ship had engine problems just half hour after departure. We missed the Tunisia port of call and limped into Naples. Pullmantur offered to reimburse one full day of cruise cost--very nice. The ship couldn't get repaired in Naples even after flying in 4 engineers from England. The decision was made to end the cruise in Rome on the next day(Wednesday). Pullmantur then flew everyone back to Barcelona and put everyone up in hotels in Barcelona for the duration. They also paid for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And here's the kicker--they are going to reimburse everyone for the price of the cruise. So we get a one week vacation--a few days on the ship and a few days in beautiful Barcelona, with food and drink for free!!!!! They are also offering 60% discount on the next Pullmantur cruise. Kudos to Pullmantur for looking after its passengers/clients. This is a very good gesture by this Spanish cruiseline. I wish the American cruise companies would be as accommodating in the future. The logistics of getting 2000 passengers out of Civitavecchia and into hotels in Barcelona in one day was truly impressive. We lucked out and were in a 5* hotel. Pullmantur staff are to be commended as they were under quite a bit of stress and pressure from all the upheaval. Top marks to all the staff---- from the front line staff taking all the abuse, to the middle management for facilitating it all, to the senior management making all those tough decisions. Pullmantur should be proud of all their staff for doing the right thing. Bravo Pullmantur!!!
