Well, since our last cruise on the Marco Polo in December 2013 Cruise & Maritime have pulled out all the stops and let the Marco Polo regain her wonderful reputation. All credit to Captain Zhukov and his crew for the safe voyage through the English Channel and the ports of Zeebrugge, Portsmouth, Honfleur and Cherbourg which were exceptionally busy at this time.

Yes, there were delays on the shore excursions - only to be expected because of the huge number of visitors to the whole area of Normandy. Exciting to see the convoy of jeeps and people dressed in GI uniforms but a pain when negotiating places such as St. Mere Eglise! It looked like another invasion had occurred! We got back on the ship at the right time so no real harm done.

There was a slight hitch on embarkation due to a broken luggage belt but we were soon onboard and our luggage was at the cabin door waiting for us. For some reason disembarkation was a little haywire this time as it was hard to negotiate the 'dog leg' passage to where the luggage was waiting to be collected. The cabin was kept spotless by Olena and Katie who was on Excursions and bookings was a joy to speak to. Lily and Charles sang and played their hearts out in Scots Bar each evening- especially Lily with her colleagues as 'The Andrew's Sisters' on the deck party on D-Day. Read more
