Just got back from our cruise on the Getaway. Overall we really enjoyed the trip. I went with my wife a kids aged 12-15. We had never been to Eastern Caribbean so we enjoyed seeing new islands. St Maarten was the highlight of the trip. We booked an excursion with "Soualiga Destinations" instead of NCL, definitely recommend them and would use them again. In St Thomas we booked the BOSS underwater tour with NCL, not worth the expense. In Nassau we took a cab to Paradise Island and hung out on the public beach there. Lots to do without having to pay for the hotel access. However if you dont like getting haggled with then go with the hotel day passes.

As for the ship, we really enjoyed it. Lots to do and you don't really feel crowded on it. The food was pretty standard fare on a cruise, nothing great but mass quantities. We tried 2 specialty restaurants. Moderno is a Brazilian steakhouse so if you like meat it is definitely worthwhile. The other was La Cucina, an italian restaurant. This one was not worth the money. The food was buffet quality and nothing special.

Try to get on the aft port side of the ship. This way you can watch the fireworks from your balcony. we were on deck 9 which is great because you can walk one level down for the shops, atrium, restaurants and theater.
