The Ultimate Mediterranean cruise is a tremendous way to see one of the most beautiful and fascinating parts of the world without the disadvantages of a tour, unpacking every night and bus rides. That being said, 1. DO THE RESEARCH and travel accordingly. Read everything you can about the ship and its ports to maximize the one day visits to Venice, Athens, Kusedasi, Santorini, Rome, Florence, Nice, Valetta and Messina. 2. Budget, since after paying your cruise fare, this is an expensive trip that requires a long air ride (from the US); probably a pre-cruise night at least in Venice (hotel, transfer, meals); tours off the ship (check out Shore Excursions.com, Cruising Excursions.com and Viator and compare with the ship's tours); possible private tour guides in places like Rome and Florence to get the most out of the experience.
3. Be prepared to indulge in what YOU like, it can be spa treatment, specialty restaurants, gambling, art auction, whatever. Once you know what you would like to do there will be no unpleasant surprises at the end of the trip.
Before getting to the actual trip here are some random observations.
Wonderful cabin, great location on the ship, the large bathroom is wonderful with a bath and shower with windows on the seas. There was enough storage for the three of us so the cabin was never cluttered. LOVE the coffee machine, good steward, butler and concierge. Provides use of Cagney's for breakfast and/or lunch or even room service breakfast (didn't use it). There were sweets and treats each day much to the pleasure of the grandchildren.
