We just returned from two weeks on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers.
The Viking Sky is an older ship and in fact is to retire from the fleet at season end. So it doesn't look as bright and shiny when tied up beside newer Viking ships as we were a few times. Nevertheless the crew and staff and food could not have been better. Excellent planning and information on the various excursions was provided and all details were complete. The real test of service came when the last lock into Budapest broke down and we could not proceed. Viking immediately arranged transfer by bus from Bratislava into Budapest, arranged for our last night's lodging at the Marriott in Budapest, and all luggage transfers as needed between ship hotel and departing air. We were treated to a grand lunch at Gundels in Budapest, certainly a more elegant meal than we would have had aboard, and dinner at the Marriott to end the stay. Even when we left at 3 in the morning for our departing flight, a box breakfast was provided. And Viking representatives were with us the whole time until flight check in. In all, Viking performed extremely well with all transfers and accommodations in Amsterdam to begin, Budapest to end and a totally unexpected contingency. Because of its age the Sky may be available at some discount for its remaining trips and I think it would be a good buy.
