I recently returned from the Aegean cruise on Thomson Majesty. My parents and I chose this cruise owing to the itinerary. The positives included how smoothly things ran from the flight to the transfer to the ship. Thomson's are well organised and the cruise proved very good value for money given the fact that food was plentiful and the entertainment surprisingly good. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. I booked 2 excursions and really enjoyed them, with Ephesus and the Acropolis being the highlights of my holiday.
Unfortunately there were a few downsides. Our outside plus cabin (and bathroom) was much smaller than that of the Thomson Dream which my parents travelled on last year. The quality of the food (whilst plentiful) was poor. The potatoes (whether chipped or roasted) were always undercooked. The afternoon tea always included burnt scones! They were also rock hard, as were some of the cakes and biscuits. Tea was served buffet style and instead of teaspoons were we expected to stir our (mugs of) tea with wooden stirrers. The milk was the long life variety. Since we docked every day except for one, there was no reason not to serve fresh milk. The buffet restaurant only had plastic beakers for the water, not glasses! The breakfast was generally good but the "orange juice" was not fresh. I came across dirty glassware, notably being served champagne in a glass with a lipstick mark at the captain's cocktail party! The napkins at the Seven Seas restaurant varied in quality too, some were linen and others cheap polyester! These issues definitely need to be sorted out. In the words of another guest I met at dinner, the Thomson Majesty experience is a 3 star cruise, definitely not 5 star!
