My wife and I took the fast ferry to Haines. Now this is a real Alaska town about as far removed from the Skagway experience that you can get. Our tour takes the route of the Little Chilkoot river to Chilkoot Lake and State Park. The river is loaded with spawning salmon that attract many bears to the banks. Alas NO bears were in site. Eagles were however in abundance (and we had a guide supplied telescope for a real close view of young and old eagles, and of course fish. I give the Haines Experience a Thumbs Up for the real Alaska. Our tour guide Carolyn had roots from Pa coal country just like me and her mother grew up about ten miles from me. We were the only two people on the tour and the service couldn't have been better. We also took a look see at old Fort Seward and the big Chilkoot River.

This was a lot of fun. A quick trip through Juneau to the Hills and to a river near a old mine. The Guide was dressed in period clothes and quite informative. After a demonstration on how to pan ... up to us. If was fun and easy and you end up with small amount of gold flakes worth $2-5 (market rate).

Brief ride to Juneau Airport for helicopter connection. Operator supplies you with boots and coat if necessary. Glacier air temperature was 6 degree C. After a ride (scenic tour actually over the valley and glacier - coming remarkably close to the walls) landed for about 30 minutes on Mendenhall Glacier. The blue color is indescribable. You walk around with a guide who points ot what we're looking out and takes photos. Be advised the wind chill was below 0 degrees C. This has to be on your bucket list.

This tour include a quick ride through town with commentary. No stops. Over two hours to walk Butchart Gardens late in the day. This is a tremendous tour for gardeners and others who love biology. Beautiful, beautiful place!

Great room with "obstructed" view. Be advised that the obstruction is minimal as the lifeboat is below eye level.More than enough space and storage.

The Bacchus dining experience was very good.The casual dining (Horatio's) was very good for what it is.
