Sail Date: Aug 2014

I was born in Miami and I have been going on cruises for many years. In fact in live in downtown Miami and I see the cruise ships from my bedroom window. When the Divina arrived in Miami I was determined to sail on her. I've sailed on practically all of the major cruise lines, and many lines that no longer exist. I go on cruises to relax and get away from it all. I go with no expectations and after sailing on so many cruises I realize that all cruise lines are different and have their own policies, some lines strictly enforce their policies while others do not. This was the first time I ever sailed on MSC and so I will list out my observations and a few complements as well as complaints.

This was an extremely unusual cruise and I really cannot compare it to any other cruise I have been on with the exception of Costa Cruises. MSC is definitely an international cruise line and attracts a significant number of international passengers. Costa does as well but seems to accommodate everyone. MSC appears to struggle to make everyone on board happy. I will say on the cruise I went on, it was an extremely strange combination of passengers consisting of Americans who comprised about 50% of the passengers on-board. There was an extremely large contingency of Chinese passengers, many Europeans (who I have to say are a little promiscuous), and others from places such as New Zealand. I realized this is not a cruise on which you will bond with your fellow passengers, there are simply to many language barriers. I usually have a few drinks every night and I asked many bartenders throughout the ship if the passengers on-board the week I sailed are representative of the passengers that they see on-board every week, they all responded by saying yes.

The ship itself is pretty with various lounges, etc. The shops were good with the exception of the logo shop, which seemed to lack merchandise and t-shirts. I was surprised that the ceilings in the Black Crab Dining room were low. Food on-board ranges from good to poor. Selections in the main dining room were adequate, but the buffet on deck 14 has more variety. Breakfast in the buffet is probably the best meal, lunch and dinner selections are fairly standard. There is not a lot to eat at late at night, there is no buffet, only pizza and "make your own sandwich" which is egg salad, tuna salad, and cole slaw. Our waiter was excellent.
