Review of Carnival Spirit Sydney to New Caledonia 17 October 2014
Reason for cruise: coincided with a birthday, and the price was brilliant for a ‘guaranteed’ balcony. We have sailed 7 times before on P&O Australia, Royal Caribbean and the longest was 5 weeks on MV Discovery (a very small ship in comparison, under 800 passengers)
Our concern was how to deal with 2600 passengers, a vast number of whom were kids of all ages: would it be a case of being confined to our cabin to escape the screaming hordes?
Excellent cabin, would book this one if we travel on Spirit again. It is unusual in that it and 7155 are two cabins ‘back’ or ‘indented’ from the rows of balcony rooms next to them. In our case, this meant there was an extra balcony wall belonging to 7151 which gave us a great wind break and more privacy on that side. The cabin was bright and spacious. There are a number of reviews already on the layout of this type of cabin so I will not go into it. The beds were the best we have had on a cruise ship, just the right amount of firmness, no sagging, with two decent square pillows and what appeared to be feather filled doonas. We took the advice from others and took along an occy strap and it worked a treat to keep the door open. We had a deck chair, an adjustable chair which turned into a ‘banana lounge’ style lie down, and a small table. Our cabin was attended morning and night (and numerous times during the day!) and was always spotless (we are not the type to leave clothes lying around, unmade beds, or pile up food and drink containers etc so keeping it clean and tidy was pretty easy for our steward).
