We never purchase SHIP excursions...so, that being said, there were 6 of us and we walked outside to which we got a large van (driver Frank)...he took us to the City of Pompeii, Sorrento and a short drive around Naples...we stopped several places for photos, we shopped in Sorrento and total trip time was 4 to 5 hours...he charged $50 EUROS each and we gave him a $30 tip (in EUROS). We probably could have gotten him for less, but, he was nice, informative and we had a good time.Weather was beautiful!

Naples

Hubby and I decided to venture out on our own...I was tired of paying for cabs when there were other travel arrangements to be made. So, from the ship there is a free shuttle bus that brings you to 'town'. Less than a 5 minute drive...however, if you want to go to ROME (approximately 1.5 hours away), you either have to get a cab or take the train...we opted for the train.The free shuttle takes you to the place where you can buy train tickets and get the 'city' bus. Train tickets were sold by a lady standing outside the booth at $13Euros, round-trip, which also included bus and subway (once you are in Rome) for the day. The 'city' bus is .80 cents to the train station...pay the .80 cents (per person) because it's about a 30 minute walk to the train station. We jumped on the 'city' bus - it's orange and made our way over to the train station...we didn't wait long for the train to Rome...and the train was pretty nice...reminds you of Amtrak or Eurostar...we somehow ended up on the Express on the outbound and arrived in Rome approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes later. So, we walk in to the very crowded station looking for info that could take us to the Coliseum...oh yea, that was our goal for the day...to visit the Coliseum...we made our way outside to a booth and the lady spoke pretty good English...she directed us on how to take the Subway to the Coliseum...however, my husband and I misunderstood and took the Subway to the last station...so, we backtracked (again, the initial ticket was good for the Subway so we had no additional expenses). We were supposed to get off at the Colesso stop...and we did, and as soon as we walked up the steps the Coliseum was starring us in the face...SO COOL...Rome (near the train station) was kinda dirty...I was surprised by this...also, on the Subway, two brothers (teen and child) were playing an accordion (for money)...they caught me taking a picture of them and of course hit us up for a few dollars...which I was happy to part with. They are NOT friendly in Rome, I could tell we were not 'wanted' :-)...oh well...been there, done that.OK, now we need to make sure that our timing is good to get us back to the ship...we catch the train going back to Civitavecchia (last stop on the return)...it took us about 10 minutes to walk to the location where we get on...this was the LOCAL train so it stopped just about every 10 minutes or so. Made our way back to Civitavecchia and realized we had not bought round trip 'city' bus tickets to get back to the cruise free shuttle bus...so, we inquired where to buy and went inside a store and was able to buy...came out and the bus was there...whew...took the ride back to the free shuttle, that was also there and made our way back to the ship...no problems...enjoyed the day...One word of advice...get ROUND-TRIP 'city' bus' tickets if you choose to do this...80 cents/eurosWeather was beautiful!

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Took a train shuttle ($10 euros each) around the area where the expensive stores are located...this took about 30 to 40 minutes...drop off back at the ship...we then decided to WALK the exact area we had been driven too because we saw stores we wanted to shop in...this was a nice relaxing beautiful day. Cannes is very pretty and clean...and very expensive! This would be a great place to have a timeshare!Weather was beautiful!

OK, so this is where my husband and I realized they wanted to find somewhere to stop over prior to heading back to Barcelona...so, this was the place...we got off the ship and there was a bus ($12 per person) EUROS that would give you the grand tour...we passed...AND there was a HOHO bus ($17 per person) EUROS that took you to other areas...we passed...the other folks we were with (4) did both of these busses from my understanding...we (husband and I) walked around the area...took about 10 minutes and there is NOTHING, I DO MEAN NOTHING, to see...so either take the bus tours or do what we did...we went back to the ship and I took the opportunity to finally go Rock Climbing and put on my bathing suit and get in the Jacuzzi...Weather was beautiful!

Palma de Mallorca (Majorca)

LOVED OUR CABIN...very contemporary...larger bed (or so it seemed)...love the animal towels and our Room Steward (Ryan)...spelling his name wrong!

we know that surveys sent inquiring about your services will go on deaf ear, why, because it's November 2014 and you are probably just about sold out on cruises for years to come...granted, as passengers we have the right to go to the front desk and request that ALL our gratuity be returned to us, but, how many people really know this and how many people will really take this action?
