Ship/Crew/Embarkation/Disembarkation

Embarkation was the slowest we had seen in several years. There were long lines for security checks and even after checking in there was a line to get on the boat. Arrival back in port was delayed due to high winds so disembarkation was also late.

For the age of the ship it is in very good condition and clean. It is a smaller ship, which we prefer so we enjoyed that. The weather was bad for much of the cruise with rain and high winds resulting in more time inside and missing Cozumel all together. We thought the ship handled the seas extremely well and by the number of people moving around, seasickness didn't seem to be a huge problem. The crew overall did a very good job. We were pleased with the service everywhere, except the beverage problems noted below. Vojtech our concierge was very good especially since he was just promoted to the position. Captain Liz was very visible and generally accessible.

Grand Suite

Cabin GS

StateroomWe had stateroom 8508 which is a category GS suite on deck 8 forward. The room was similar to GS suites we've had on other RCCL ships but perhaps slightly smaller. The balcony was nice sized and all of the furniture was in good shape. The room was in very good condition. Our stateroom attendant, Patrick did an outstanding job and was very visible and helpful. There were three major problems with the room, the first being the least important. I have never understood why most of the TV channels are international when 90% of the passengers are from the US. Second this cabin has a major noise problem. It sits beneath the Windjammer buffet line and the crew starts to get the breakfast buffet ready between 5 and 6 am and there is a lot of noise from carts being rolled around and things being dropped etc. We should have done our homework and avoided this room. The last problem is the worst and will probably keep us from sailing with RCCL again. The mattress is like sleeping on a CONCRETE SLAB. We both woke up with sore backs, hips and shoulders. We talked to the concierge about it and Patrick, our stateroom attendant, did his best to help by putting two comforters on the mattress, but it didn't help much. Since this is showing up as a complaint more often I have to assume that this is their new bedding and if so it is a deal breaker for us. There is no need to be miserable when there are other choices.
