Our family, grandparents, parents, and teenage boys went on the Christmas cruise from New Orleans to Vicksburg and back. Seven nights. We had a wonderful time and would recommend it to other families. Yes, the average age was 70+ but this was a crowd that even our teenagers enjoyed! People were friendly, happy and talkative! We took many of the premium shore excursions which were all top notch and an excellent learning experience for our family particularly as we are from California and didn't hadn't seen much of the South first hand. I think they made the trip for us as we saw a lot but also had plenty of time to simply enjoy the boat. The food was fantastic and I'd like to do a special call out for great service from our dining room servers, Deon and Julius and the Chef! We loved them! Great to have wine included with dinner. All the staff was fantastic! There were a few other families with young people so our boys found friends to hang out with. I would suggest that the ship find some space (the movie theater?) to make a young peoples' "club" and they might attract more families. Let the kids watch movies, play Twister or ping pong or Wii ..things that would help them make friends and have a place to go. My sons did use the exercise room. The pool was closed since it was winter. As for me, I was happy to see the older folks cruising the wide decks and enjoying themselves. Our staterooms were very nice and more than comfortable. Personally one of my favorite things was having an outside stateroom so we could open the doors and watch the ships and shore go by or sit on the chairs just outside our room. The entertainment was terrific although I didn't go every show but not every show was my cup of tea and that was okay. Something for every body. American Queen also provided a "Riverlorian" who told stories of life on the Mississippi that were very popular. Just the boat was living history. All in all a terrific experience and worthy of the five star rating!

Cabin Review

Cabin Standard Category B

Very comfortable bed and plenty of space to store your belongings. We asked for extra pillows which made reading and relaxing even more comfortable. The in-room flat screen TV was nice but we barely watched it except checking in on the news or a sports event. Bathrooms were very elegant. Individual climate control was awesome to have! Internet could be improved :-)
