Just returned from a 7 day Alaskan inside passage cruise with Holland America on the m/s Noordam, sailing dates July 11th thru 18th. Our first cruise, 3 of us in one stateroom; my wife and I along with our 14 year old granddaughter. We choose a center ship inside main deck room as to keep the cost lower and to reduce possible motion sickness. We believe this was a good choice as we spent little time in the room.
After reading some reviews on Cruise Critic my expectations were somewhat toned-down. When you put nearly 2000 people together in a confined space for 7 days it is a social experiment with most wanting a different outcome than the other person. Most of our pre conceived expectations were met and we are pleased about that.
Boarding aka embarkation went well it somewhat like a mouse running thru a maze as you must go complete customs and various check points before you are allowed to board the ship. If you have some type of handicap it seems you will be well taken care of. The process is not bad as everyone involved on shore wants to be helpful and have good attitude. As soon as you get on the ship everyone is there to help answer questions and get you settled. Our luggage was delivered to our room in a timely manner and food was being served at the Lido restaurant. I think if you deal with boarding with a positive attitude it should be a breeze.
