My husband has always wanted to traverse the Panama Canal so this was a "bucket list" cruise. Overall, the Jewel is a great ship - easy to navigate, friendly crew, good food, excellent shows and a comfortable cabin. We had cabin 8010 with Gede as our steward. He did a wonderful job and other than a light bulb going bad in the bathroom in the middle of the night (no one's fault) and a leak outside our door (quickly fixed), we were pleased with both the cabin and the service. We ate dinner most nights in Azura and tried to sit in Karin's section. She is a wonderful server! The food was generally good all over the ship - main dining rooms, buffet, grill and O'Sheehan's were the places we ate. Drinks were good everywhere except the Sky High Bar and after 3 attempts to get a Mojito that was made correctly, we gave up on that one. We enjoyed all the shows we attended, especially a commedian/magician named JP, male singer - can't remember his name, the variety shows, crew show and especially Cirque de Soleil type show. We enjoyed all of our excursions except one - the Hop On/Hop Off tour of Cartagena Columbia. We have done other hop on/hop off tours in other places and have always been pleased. This one, however, was a disappointment! The guide for the "walking tour of the walled city" was much more interested in taking us by everyone she knew that was selling or doing something for tips than she was in letting us learn about the walled city. Definitely would not recommend this one! Overall our experience was very good and we are glad we took the cruise. This was our 5th NCL cruise and we'll come back when we're ready for another trip.

Cabin OA

My husband celebrated his birthday on the cruise and Gede, our steward, did a wonderful job with the birthday package our daughters had purchased. The only real negative about the cabin is the safe is extremely tempermental - it would work eventually but sometimes we had to put our code in 5 times to get it to lock. We didn't report it because it wasn't enough of an irritation to bother anybody with it.

Port Reviews

Puerto Quetzal (Antigua)

We did Antigua on your own and were very pleased with the way everything was set up, the instructions we were given and our escort, Edgar, was available in a central location in case we had any questions. We ate lunch at La Fond and it was delicious.

Cabo San Lucas

We just wandered around Cabo, did a little shopping and took the tender back to the ship.

Puerto Vallarta

We walked along the Malecon and did a little shopping. It's a beautiful area.

Huatulco

We didn't book a tour because there is a lovely beach next to the pier. We got 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella for $10 so definitely an inexpensive beach day.
