We sailed on Magnifica in February, we have sailed on her before and she lived up to our expectations and a little more fun than the previous cruise we had on Splendida. If you are looking for a recommendation then there are a few thing to consider before you choose MSC. If you want the English or American experience then read no further, if you are looking for a cosmopolitan cruise where you will meet several cultures and nationalities then it's worth a try. The ships are high end quality when it comes to design, very modern and sparkling. but the price you pay will be reflected in the food etc. you can get ships that provide high end food but this does come at a price.

The size and quality of the cabins are some of the best I have had in many years of cruising, but don't expect expensive toiletries in the room only basic requirements. The cabin was kept spotlessly clean and there were no stains on the walls and carpets that I experienced on some "English" ships. The balcony was a good size with nice table and chairs.

In the restaurant we were as usual seated with English speaking guests, the food was good quality but if you want lobster etc. you will need to pay a top up fee or visit the onboard speciality venue. There is plenty of choice on the menu and always two alternative dishes. The meals are not large but there are 5 to 6 courses and if you ask for extra for example two main dishes this does not cause any problems. We also used the MDR for breakfast and lunch if we were onboard as it is a bit more sedate than the buffet, you are assigned a seat and have a choice of either menu with waiter service or serve yourself buffet. We did not use the buffet very often but that was just personal choice, a lot of reports seem to say it is a problem finding a seat; but there was always room towards the back of the ship or dare I suggest you share with a stranger and have a chat.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B2

Clean with a good size balcony, the only issue we had was the adjoining door, The people in the next cabin had the patio door open during the night and this made a whining noise through the door. We reported this to reception and they said they would seal it up, but this was never done.

Port Reviews

Genoa

Embarkation port

Katakolon (Olympia)

Did the dotty train trip with wine tasting stop half way, it was very enjoyable. There are some shops in town just next to the ship and a lot of restaurants on the front, all a short level walk from the ship

Limassol

You will need to take the shuttle or the local bus at the port as it is quite a way from town. The shops in town are tourist type shops

Rhodes

The old town is a short walk from the ship with a lot of tourist shops, the modern town and shops are just a short walk along the front.

Crete (Heraklion)

We walked it into town it is quite a flat walk and takes about 15 to 20 minutes, lots of shops and food venues

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Take the free bus then a short walk into town if you are not going on a Rome trip, There are nice shops and a nice sea front

Malta (Valletta)

You can walk it up the slope to the left and then the steps through the gardens if you want to keep fit or there is a lift for a euro to take you to the city level

Athens (Piraeus)

Its quite a big town with lots of shops, all walkable from the ship
