Madeira, ashore.

We chose this cruise as friends had already booked. Being mid February we hoped that a southerly cruise route would take us to warmer climes and we weren't disappointed. It was great to enjoy the on board facilities including the pool deck. On some days the heated pool was very warm, on others not so warm.

The embarkation process was smooth. The only slight negative here was that we were thirsty before boarding and immediately before being called forward to go aboard, there is a little shop selling water. All three of our parties bought 2 litre bottles of water, only to have it immediately confiscated on boarding! Our cabin was big enough and we thought very nice. A quick explore of the ship and we were impressed. From the outset the crew on board were extremely helpful.

Dining on board in the two main dining rooms was good although we found The Garden to have more charm than Windows, with more intimate lighting and atmosphere. Of all the meals we had on board the worst dish served was a cold soup served in Windows. It was sent back and returned not much warmer. Apart from this the food throughout was very pleasing. We had five speciality dining experiences on board and they were all very nice. Cagney's was great for a very large steak (rib eye!). Le Bistro was fancy food and tasty! Tea coffee and water on board are not included in the drinks package which was odd we thought, especially as we could go and get the same from the upstairs buffet! Breakfast was a feast and it was nice to be able to take the food outside to eat on warmer days.

4580 - since returning home I have read the words of others who have stayed in this cabin and recommended asking to be moved if allocated this cabin. They were so right!!! The cabin itself is fine - it's the location that sucks. It is the last cabin on the port side on deck 4. It is located right next to one of the main embarkation doors. Not a problem normally perhaps. However this is the door used by the Pilot who is required to board before entering each port. So on each occasion that we were scheduled to enter a port, the door would be opened, staff would attach safety lines, the Jacob's Ladder would be lowered over the side for the pilot to climb on board. You might think this would not make much noise. You'd be wrong. DO NOT ACCEPT this cabin if you are allocated it.

Port Reviews

Las Palmas (Gran Canaria)

We took the horse and cart instead of the open top red tour bus. Was a nice ride bit I think the tour bus offers more. We were taken to the Caslte (which was closed!) and the beach, which we could have walked to.

Tenerife

My first time here. Very pretty town with lots of trees and charm. Good shopping!

Madeira (Funchal)

Stunning place. The little backstreets are quaint and a photographers dream. Lots of individual painted front doors in one street.

This is a very colourful town, literally.

The cable car trip is a must.

Malaga

Do the ride on the big wheel! Stunning city with great old architecture.
