My husband and I chose Viking because a Viking River Cruise had shown what attention could be shown to a cruise passenger. We chose The Romantic Mediterranean Cruise because after 40 years in the Navy, my husband still had not sailed the Mediterranean Sea. Was it a good Choice? Yes!! Shall I compare it to the Rhine River Cruise?
The size of the two ships was apparent, of course. The Longship Egil had two decks and top deck, the Viking Sky seemed to reach to the sky. On the back of my AAA card I made a little map with the eating places on one end and the meeting places or others places to go to in their place on the card. And my stateroom well marked so I would not get lost. The beauty of the public areas reflected the homelands of the owners in calm colors with dramatic artistic flourishes..
The stateroom layout would be familiar to anyone who had been aboard a river cruise except it was more spacious, of course. The closet was ample, with a panel of drawers on the open end of the hallway. The desk opened up to a divided and lighted make-up vanity, often appreciated by females. In my Deluxe Veranda Cabin, the seating area was ample.as was the veranda space. Much appreciated was the heated bathroom floors. Luxury, indeed.
Comfortable and lovely, as expected. Loved the heated bathroom floor.
Bus tour very good and walking part downhill so manageable with my walker. Tour guide attentive and knowledgeable.
Long excursion of Marseille and Aix-en-Provence. Of course could not go up all the steps to Notre Dame but enjoyed bus ride to both towns.
Lovely and exciting with many mountainous curves. Loved it. stopped for a refreshing local snack.
Snapshots of Rome Excellent for those of Us who were extending in Rome. Viewed highlights around edge of city, got some history and overview, some idea of where things were. Did not see anything in central city due to street size.
We put into Villa franche and there was no way to get above the level of the dock except by taxi. The Shore excursion manager made NO arrangement to meet the tours for mobility challenged. Golf carts perhaps????
