Extremely crowded Royal Promenade!

We wanted to return to the Southern Caribbean and this ship had the itinerary we were looking for. We have cruised at least a dozen times on various cruise lines and I'm sad to report that this was the worst experience we've had in over 8 years of cruises.

We spent a day in San Juan prior to the cruise which was a lovely experience. Embarkation was smooth and quick. The ship is in good condition and offered a wide variety of features that interested us like the ice rink and flow rider. We didn't have any children with us but being big kids ourselves, we wanted to have fun with these things.

The food, both in the dining room and the buffet was horrible. It was like eating school cafeteria food. The food was either over cooked or undercooked. My husband's cod fish was served raw in the middle! My medium/rare steak was burned etc. The quality of meat was poor. The lobster was rubbery and truly the worst quality that one can get. The only vegetables served were carrots and broccoli which were mushy. Mashed potatoes with just about everything. Serious lack of spices, flavor and variety. Even the eggs at breakfast were bad. The scrambled eggs weren't even cooked, they were liquidy. It was horrifying.

Interior Stateroom

Cabin K

Our interior stateroom was very spacious. It is the largest interior stateroom of any ship I have been on. It had a loveseat which was very comfortable and much appreciated so you didn't have to sit in bed to read the newsletter they give you.

The bathroom was a nice size and the glass doors on the shower gave us more room in the shower.

There was plenty of space (drawers, closets etc.) for all of our belongings.

Port Reviews

San Juan

We arrived a day early and spent a day walking through Old San Juan. The free tourist trolley was terrific for getting from point A to point B after a full day of walking the hills there. It was a very interesting area and very convenient to the cruise terminal. We did have to take a taxi to the terminal from Old San Juan because it is not within walking distance.

St. Maarten

We have been to St. Maarten before and explored both the Dutch and French sides. Town is an easy walk from the ship and has a nice beach. The shops are nice but it's all the same tourist junk or jewelry that is found in every port.

Barbados

We didn't take an excursion in Barbados. It was a port with the same shops that every other port had. Nothing special.
