Beautiful waters at Labadee (RCI private resort) in Haiti.
View of Cozumel from Oasis, 17th floor Crown Loft suite (L1-1756).
Another view of Cozumel from Oasis, 17th floor Crown Loft suite (L1-1756).

We decided to cruise for Spring Break with our 6 and 8 year old. We chose Royal Caribbean because of their childcare and kids' activities and the fact that RCI was running a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise on Oasis at the perfect time for us. Port Canaveral is close to my parents' home so we left our baby girl with them.

We went all out and got a Crown Loft (L1) suite (#1756) which we would recommend to anyone enjoying space, privacy and a fantastic view. It was the perfect suite for a couple with kids who can share a king-sized sofa bed. We were Sky Class and having suite-level privileges just made the experience a million times better.

A few key benefits of being Suite passengers: expedited boarding and debarkation (huge perk! NO waiting, NO lines)... privacy on the 17th floor... Coastal Kitchen only for suite guests... personal concierges who arranged everything for us (reservations for dining) and answered every question, however random... VIP reserved seating at almost every event.

Cabin Review

Crown Loft Suite with Balcony

Cabin L1

We knew we were splurging on our suite, but didn't know how much more enjoyable having Sky Class (suite) privileges would make the entire cruise. The Crown Loft suite we picked (1756) was roomy, comfortable, private, quiet and well-kept. Our stateroom attendant, Eleanor, was friendly and took care to make up the room only in our absences (usually mealtimes, twice daily). The suite floor concierges Dudley and Christine were also terrific, helping us with all manner of questions and reservations.

The 17th floor balcony view was superb. My husband spent a lot of time reading on the balcony and it became his favorite place to relax. The two-story loft concept made the suite feel light and airy, with plenty of room for the kids on the first floor and us in the loft space. Love the double walk-in shower in the loft, and the kids had their own shower downstairs. Super convenient and luxurious. Plenty of closet space and nice wooden hangers.

The suite-only Coastal Kitchen dining room and adjoining lounge were our go-to spots for all but four dinner meals (we bought a dining package for our choice of specialty restaurant... recommended) and the service and food were consistently excellent. The staff learned our names (all four of us) and were always a pleasure to deal with.

Having enjoyed the amenities of a Crown Loft on the 17th floor of Oasis, I'm pretty sure we'll be unable to do future cruises at anything less than Suite status. Totally spoiled!

Port Reviews

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Boarding was terrible for everyone but suite passengers (who had their own expedited drop off area and lanes) because of a 'computer glitch' with RCI's systems.

Debarkation was a slow-rolling mess for (again) everyone but suite class, who were escorted to the head of all lines, because incredibly, U.S. Customs only had THREE agents working to process 6,000 passengers off the boat. Many people missed their flights. SAD.
