We have travelled on 35 cruises, many with Thomson, but never on the Majesty until this one. We found the Majesty old & dated, cabins were unimpressive (ours had a big pipe behind the drawers/bedhead that regularly sloshed water/waste? ). Toilet overflowed but was dealt with promptly. No retention for shower water so it overflowed over the entire bathroom floor, especially during ship listing movements (Majesty doesn't appear to have any stabilisers). Shower had good pressure but was the tiniest cubicle I've ever seen on any of the Thomson ships nevertheless we did manage. Shower/Shampoo dispensers while welcome, their contents were obviously very, very, cheap. The cabin air-conditioning was unresponsive or possibly centrally controlled as we've discovered on other Thomson ships? Lounge areas were usually lacking in atmosphere - some of the entertainment at the piano bar involved the musician (guitar/singer) facing the bar & its staff rather than his audience. We found the acoustics in the show lounge poor and probably didn't do credit to the entertainers/singers. Despite signs warning & advising otherwise, young children were regularly in the jacuzzi hot tub, either with parents but more frequently on their own. And of course there's always the issue of reserved sunbeds. An unfriendly waitress in the Polo lounge appeared to take exception to our son's polite request for a glass of ice for his soda & instructed the barman to charge him the price of a soft drink for the ice! The barman was just as bad by stating that he'd let him have ice, but only just this once. Reception had difficulty understanding this when we reported it and the Bar Manager was not to be found.

Now for the positives: Thankfully most of Thomson cruise staff are very friendly, helpful and pleasant. There's always a good choice of food and a range of different dining experiences (some of the restaurants do have a surcharge but are worth it for a special occasion etc). Cabin stewards work hard at keeping cabins clean, tidy, and are enthusiastic to help in any way they can. Thompson cruises are a great way to see different destinations practically every day and to experience low budget cruising especially for first time cruisers. There is no hefty gratuities bill at the end of your cruise. Entertainment is usually very good on most Thomson cruise ships. While this particular cruise was our worst experience, it hasn't put us of cruising with Thompson as we've had so many other good, positive, experiences in the past and are already booked for one of their newer ships, the Discovery, in a few months' time. Happy Cruising.

Cabin Review

Cabin Outside Plus

Outside Plus Cabin No. 638 had a big pipe behind the drawers/bedhead that regularly sloshed water/waste? No retention for shower water so it overflows over the entire bathroom floor, especially during ship movements (Majesty doesn't appear to have any stabilisers). Shower had good pressure but was the tiniest cubicle I've ever seen on any of the Thomson ships. Very cheap Soap/Shampoo in the dispensers. Cabin air-conditioning was unresponsive or possibly centrally controlled as we've discovered this on other Thomson ships.
