I had chosen to go on our first cruise (GF is afraid of planes). We chose a week long cruise around the scenic Fjords of Norway on the Azura. Incredible scenes sadly did nothing to alleviate the boredom of this ship.

I did not know what to expect being our first cruise and was pleasant surpised by the service onboard, which I had expected to be lesser than the more expensive rivals like Cunnard etc. However the waiters were very friendly and always avaliable. The prices of alcohol were no different to pub prices and the food was excellent.

Being in my early 30s I did think that cruising out of season might be like going to a bingo hall but having choosen such a huge ship I thought that there would be equally aged people on board and plenty of things to do all day. I would say though that only maybe 5% of the whole ship were under 65. I do not begrudge an good chat with my elders, however when I wanted to entertain myself aboard, all I was able to do was play shuffle board or go to a guest speakers who were either explaining how to reduce swelling in your feet or how to use an Ipad.

Inside Stateroom

Was fine. All smelled nice, looked clean. Only issue was the very slow working TV menu system. Drove me nuts trying to get a film to play off their interactive service.

Port Reviews

Olden

Very picturesque. Best place by far, however there is little there but the Glacier, which has pretty much melted out of view. The trip cost about £115 quid to basically be on a return coach trip about 10 miles up the road. Bit of a ripoff but they have a monopoly on it and there isn't anything else to do.

Andalsnes

Again, a very small place. We wanted to the do train trip or at least a coach trip but they were all booked up. I would say book this one way way in advance and get your spot as there is little else to do. The cruise liner has not put enough effort into adding more coaches to the Troll wall on this stop. Dissappointed.

If you can't do a trip climb the mountain in the town.

Stavanger

Was Ok, what we would consider a small city or large town. Not a lot outside of the main port area. We took a £25quid pp sightseeing bus trip, which did about 5 miles around. Saw what we could and got back onbaord.
