When we had our first sight of the ship in Southampton, it was very impressive and exciting. Our holiday was very enjoyable but there were a few things which we found disappointing.Rooms were lovely and service good but the first disappointment we had was in the main dining room. The tables were very close together giving an impression of over crowding. The dining chairs were so heavy that it became a joke when the waiter had to man handle us into place at the table. It was almost impossible to pull the chairs into place at the table. Many people complained about them. On the whole, the chairs throughout the ship vwere quite uncomfortable. We are late 50s early 60s and we just felt that the cruise was geared for much older guests. Very little to do in the afternoons apart from lectures on giant squid etc. Fine if that interests you or if you like bingo. Otherwise, take a nap as most of the guests were doing. We have done this trip several times and each year are on the ship on 11th November. On the Eclipse, there was a last minute rushed remembrance service taken by two fellow guests and it took place at the glass blowing area. Hardly a suitable venue for such a service. There was no chaplain on the ship and no one to serve mass to those guests who wished. We felt quite embarrassed at the total lack of respect of the cruise director when he allowed the remembrance service as a token. All in, the food was good, the rooms good the public areas nice but sadly, the ship seemed to lack any atmosphere. We will not do our transatlantic next year with Celebrity in fact I don't think we will cruise with them again. Not our cup of tea. RCCL knocks spots off them and Celebrity is certainly not worth the extra cost. I used the spa and the service there was lacking as the staff were ending their contract and just gave adequate service and no more.
