We had a great tour in this port. The port area itself is nice to get off and walk around, though getting into town is a bit tricky. The downtown area, well unless you are looking for something to buy specifically, I would avoid it. We did the 4X4 and Snorkeling adventure tour and it was very well run. We had a great time on our tour.
To the port's defense, we only got off long enough to look around the little shopping area. We had been warned about taking taxi's to other parts of the island because of the roads. We considered a boat tour but decided against it. The shopping area did not impress and this was the day I had my spa treatment.
Let's just say the taxi driver's here make the ones in Ocho Rios look laid back and subdued. You can't walk 2 feet without being harassed. The shopping in the port area is OK, and the little straw market is fun (until the electricity goes out and you can't see anything). This was a great day to relax at the Solarium.
This is one of our favorites. We enjoyed shopping for pretty much the whole day. There is so much to see in the port area, and also some great deals. What else can I say?
We took the shuttle over to the other side of the island, and all I can say is "why?" There are a few shops, and the rest is zzzzz. We took the water taxi over to Hotel on the Cay to the beach. It was nice but again not much for 90 minutes on a crowded shuttle.
