As we docked a woman next to us suggested we head to the fort by way of the Old City Wall, and it was a beautiful walk along the harbor and wall. We then went through the City Gate and up to the fort (El Morro). There was a festival going on, and it made the streets very crowded. The fort was well worth the hike and price of admission ($3). However, the rain came and it was a wet, slippery walk down the cobblestone streets back to the ship. We would have liked to go to the other fort, San Cristobal, but didn't feel we could do both of them justice, as they close at 6:00.

Again rainy weather was in the area, although it was scattered. We took the Yacht Sail and Snorkel excursion through RCI and had a great time. There were just six of us on a sailboat, and the captain and his assistant made sure our snorkel gear was on appropriately. They assured us we were heading away from the rain and they were right. While the description implies that we would go some places that the locals recommend, we ended up at the same site as several other snorkeling expeditions, which is what we were trying to avoid—the crowds. However, the excursion was well worth it. We headed back to the ship, changed, ate lunch, and then went down to the shops. Threatening rain kept us in the shopping area near the ship, and we did not get into St. Thomas. For those who sent postcards, there is a post office in that shopping area, and postcards I mailed actually arrived before we got home.
