River Tosca Review - First Glimpse
Editor's Note: In December 2009, Uniworld told Cruise Critic that River Tosca will go into dry dock in February 2010 for two months after complaints about the ship's poor finish. Scratched parquet floors, splattered paint, stained bathtubs and loose tiles have all been cited by passengers, some of them on the Cruise Critic message boards. For more information, read the full story here.
Uniworld's newest, company-owned ship, River Tosca, began sailing the Nile in Egypt in 2009, joining the nine other boutique hotel-style ships in the fleet.
The 84-passenger ship has been decorated by the interior design team responsible for furnishing the Red Carnation Hotel Collection (one of Uniworld's sister companies), a group of 11 five-star luxury hotels.
Here is what passengers can expect to find onboard:
In terms of accommodations, all 42 suites (most are over 300 square feet) on River Tosca are decorated with rich wood paneling, original Egyptian artwork, handcrafted Alhambra brass lanterns and fine linen drapes accented with Ian Mankin striped fabric. There are leather night tables, and the beds are fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets and duvets. iPod docking stations are also available so guests can listen to their own music.
For those wanting a bit more space, presidential cabin suites come in at over 650 square feet with large, adjoining private terraces.
River Tosca's onboard features include a swimming pool lined with cabanas and a sun deck. There will also be a fully equipped gym, a spa, a library, and a small boutique for gifts and sundries.
By night, passengers can enjoy the panoramic views of the Nile and entertainment on the ship's rooftop bar.
