September 2023 Riverboat Trip - Amsterdam to Budapest. Great trip but everyone got Covid as did another Viking boat with a similar internary.

We loved the cruise. Great trip, food, excursions, services, the top deck viewing/walking area and cabins were exceptional. Unfortunately, almost everyone got a mild case of Covid. Regarding the flight arrangements, I was disappointed that my airport - PHL - was not used for a direct flight to Europe. There are direct flights from PHL to Amsterdam which would have saved us 2 1/2 hrs. Going ...

Changing ships and bussing

We had a very good friend recommend Viking River cruises, specifically this one. We had a good time, but was so disappointed with having to be bussed to change ships and to several towns. Because of this we missed a lot of the scenery that is so integral to a river cruise and why we chose this one. We also did not have the scheduled glass blowing demonstration on board and missed free time in ...

My husband and I chose the Rhine Getaway because we wanted to travel the Rhine. Viking did not disappoint. We had an amazing time. We loved the smaller group on the long boat and met wonderful people. The free daily excursions were amazing and the guides were knowledgeable. If you didn’t want to purchase any extra excursions you would see a lot and have a wonderful time. We did purchase a couple ...

An excellent view of life in Europe's major river basins.

We wanted to do this cruise, and the time lined up correctly with some other tour plans. The Viking experience - ship, food, and program - was simply outstanding. The program director, Gabor, was fantastic, and as a native of Hungary, was able to give many personal insights and great stories about life behind the Iron Curtain. The evening "port briefing" before dinner each day was informative ...

This was our first river cruise, and first cruise with Viking. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the Viking Lofn experience. The crew were superb and really aimed to please. Our cruise took place while Viking was instituting a number of COVID protocols including daily testing on board and masking. Those have since been discontinued by Viking which would give me pause before doing another river cruise. ...

A simple answer is because COVID prevented us from sailing in 2020 and 2021 on our Russia cruise. After two cancellations we decided to take this cruise with the added cruise from Budapest to Bucharest. Our first cruise was the Grand European in 2016. This trip we added two more siblings making a full dozen passengers. Those on the first cruise enjoyed the Grand European so much we willingly ...

Great cruise but needs some improvement.

1) The agenda for the land excursions are less interesting compared to my river cruise to Normandy 4 months ago. For example, - Black Forest land excursion is a shopping tour that must be changed. We were driven for 2 hours to 3 shops selling merchandises. It was good that there was a hike up the waterfall (to save the day). It took another 2 hours drive to return to the ship. Recommend to ...

This was the first sailing after lockdown. I have always wanted to try river cruising since I first retired 10 years ago. Now there is no going back!. I am an experienced traveller and have taken many group tours. This was wonderful from beginning to end. You are picked up at the airport and taken to the ship. I had a French balcony room. It was beautiful, unfortunately my roommate would not ...

The accommodations were excellent. The suite layout was very comfortable with everything needed for a comfortable cruise. The dining was exceptional. A nice variety of offerings with an excellent staff. The ship was fairly new so all amenities were in great condition. The time spent at each stop was just about perfect. The excursions were interesting and easy to get to and from with all travel ...

First Viking Cruise & NOT THE LAST

Amsterdam to Basel was our first river cruise with Viking and will not be our last. From start to finish Viking handled everything very efficiently. They made you feel as if it was an exclusive trip and you owned the boat. They catered to your every whim. The small number of guests made it feel like one big family get together. The ship was very well appointed and spacious. You never felt as ...
