"Overall, we enjoyed the cruise, but given the huge disparity in the food and beverage experience between the Jewel and the Jade, and not knowing which Spaceship we might encounter should we sail with Scenic, we won’t sail with them again. We recently completed a 15-day river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, and, well, some good and some bad...."Read More

1-10 of 31 Budapest Scenic River Scenic Jewel Cruise Reviews
We recently completed a 15-day river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam on Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, and, well, some good and some bad. As to the bad, it likely put us off Scenic enough that we won’t cruise with them again.
This was not our first cruise, but it was our first river cruise. Realizing that river cruising differed from ocean cruising I watched a lot of videos, so got a pretty ...
Chose this cruise because we are fiscally in good condition and knew at times there maybe some long days if you were to take in all or most of the activities on board and off.
From time we arrived in Amsterdam to flying home from Prague we always were in excellent hands with tour guides and crew. Very knowledgable and friendly.
Highlight, bike ride thro Austria.
This is truly a five star ...
Suggested by my travel agent. I also liked the fact once you paid your final payment that it covered everything! Excursions, alcoholic beverages and gratuities! The staff of the Jewel were absolutely phenomenal. Food was awesome as there were so many choices from fine dining to a la carte to buffet. Ship was nice and clean.
Nightly local entertainment in the Lounge was the perfect finale to ...
Lovely ship, clean and comfortable. All Staff helpful, attentive, polite.
Extremely smart. Butlers charming, could not do enough for us, Their grey suits exceptional. Very comprehensive tours with excellent guides. However one criticism is that their walking pace was a little to fast for me age group they were leading. The app on the smart phone had several technical difficulties.
The two ...
Unfortunately we were sailing in an unlucky year as 2018 saw one of the driest condition on the rivers in 100 years. So we weren’t able to sail on our assign ship the Opal. Our embarkation didn’t happen on Oct 24 as scheduled because no ship could reach Budapest. We were able to finally board the Jewel on Oct 28 in Regensburg.
The ship was comfortable and it was smooth sailing, we had a good ...
Every day since we left, our ship docks next to at least one other. Sometimes there are 3 abreast - this, in the low season. As a result, our view from our balcony (which we paid extra for ~silly us!) is into the window of the cabin of the other ship. So, no view. One night, we were apparently near the exhaust vent of another ship and so for days after, our room and all others on this side smelled ...
We choose Scenic for the all-inclusive option, where tips and alcoholic beverages outside of meals are included in the price. We also chose them because of their 5-star rating, as most in the group were seasoned travellers with discriminating tastes. Scenic met our expectations in all respects, with only a few exceptions. The design of the Jewel (not sure about their other ships) is flawed in the ...
Dear deeappleby,
Thank you for your lovely review and it's great to hear that you had a wonderful experience on board and you had an extremely comfortable cruise. We're pleased to read that...
We cruised along the Danube towards the Black Sea having previously sailed in the opposite direction from Vienna to Nuremberg. We were fortunate to encounter wall to wall sunshine in early to mid-October. Scenic Jewel is well up to the job of cruising with visibility from all aspects and dining second to none. The crew were superb and our tour manager, Nikola, was an accomplished host from start ...
I chose this cruise because the price I paid was all I paid (no staff tipping, alcohol was "free", trips were all included) and because I liked the itinerary. Every single aspect worked perfectly from the pick up from our house to the airport, the flight left on time (RyanAir), the pick up from Budapest to the ship, the welcome, the trips, etc etc.
I cannot fault a single aspect of this ...
The stay in Budapest before we sailed was very good; that Marriott was excellent and very professionally run. Embarkation was smooth.
The ship was pretty well all that we expected it to be, except for the so-called library which was a joke.
The cabin was all that was required, well designed, fitted and maintained.
We do not like buffets for dinner (as distinct from breakfast) but the ...
