Have recently arrived back in Australia following the Viking Passage cruise on Zuiderdam.
I was slightly anxious about a cruise of this length as our first cruise, but totally enjoyed the experience and my husband and I are already talking about where we will cruise next.
I was pleasantly surprised by the size of our stateroom - we had a large inside room on main deck and we would happily ...
We are definitely not going on HAL cruises again , neither recommending HAl to my friends. This cruise has been a big disappointment to us, and from what I've heard around, to other travelers, as well.
The main reason for us to choose this cruise was its itinerary, but 3 out of the 10 stops were canceled. Sure one cannot fight weather conditions, but I do have my doubts about how necessary ...
All in all, this turned out to be a pretty good cruise. The itinerary got changed around a bit for a number of reasons. We had bad weather in the Labrador Sea which caused us to miss two port calls, also, on the way to St. John’s , we needed to double back and assist in the search efforts for a person who went missing from another cruise ship that was in our area so we missed that port and ...
Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland, and returning to our home port of New York were reasons for choosing this cruise. Apparently this itinerary appealed to many well travelled travelers as there was quite an international complement of passengers. This made for many interesting dinner conversations learning about others’ travels. One guest told us there were around 400 passengers from ...
As living in Copenhagen, it was no problem to get transport to the embarkation which was smooth. The ship is nice and layed out in "classical cruise style" with lots of flowers and art. The Zuiderdam is indeed not an old rust bucket,
Average age for fellow passengers was about 70 or a bit more. We had nice a balcony cabin, average size, (6121) with lots of storage possibilities.
Dining in ...
This was our first cruise and we had mixed expectations. But overall we felt it to be a good experience.
We found that the Zuiderdam was a well maintained ship, the staff very serviceminded and the food was good and varied.
However on the negative side was the last two days experience. The tropical storm that started in Florida had worked its way north along the US-eastcoast, and would come ...
We chose this cruise for the date and the itinerary. This was a transatlantic / repositioning cruise starting in Copenhagen Denmark. We visited Norway, Iceland, Greenland and Canada finally disembarking in Manhattan. We crossed the Arctic Circle and when cruised Prince Christian Sund, Greenland. The outdoors were magnificent but the Ship was old, small and worn. Crew did an incredible job ...
We booked this Viking Passage cruise because of its appealing itinerary which included both Iceland and Greenland. Overall we were pleased with the cruise but cannot award it five stars because of too many minor irritations. We have been on over twenty cruises, several with Holland America. Neither HAL not any other of the ocean cruise lines we have used have matched our recent cruise with Viking ...
The combination of these two cruises ticked a lot of boxes for us.
Boarding and disembarkation procedures were of the usual high standard we have come to expect from HAL. The other thing that impresses me is HAL's insistence that all passengers attend the lifeboat drill at their designated station. This compared to another line who does it from the 'comfort' of the theatre. I know whose ship ...
We had a good cruise until the head office decided to make the captain sailed the ship right into the Hurrican with 90 to 100 miles per hour wind, it was hell for 2 days. The wave was so high, the starboard side suites was flooded with water. The wind blew one of the outside door down, and Holland American still refused to compensate passengers.
If the ship would sail according to the ...
