The World Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview
Who goes on The World cruise ships?
Some 150 families from around 20 countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and South Africa own 165 luxury residences on The World, Residencies at Sea. Some live on the ship year-round, although most tend to be onboard for three to four months. The ship circumnavigates the world on itineraries the residents choose, coordinating their travels with major events and festivals. Potential buyers must prove a minimum net worth of $5 million to purchase an apartment.
Do I have to dress up on a The World cruise?
That depends on whether you're leaving your apartment. There is an extensive dress code on The World, with resort casual as the base attire in public areas. In the evenings, the dress code varies by where you are dining, but you can dress as casually as you like if you choose to dine in your own residence.
Is everything free on The World cruises?
Not exactly. Much is included in the residents' annual fee, which is based on the square footage of their apartments, including crew compensation and ship maintenance; an annual food and beverage charge can be applied in various ways onboard, but things like shore excursions and wellness center treatments always cost extra.
What are The World’s most popular activities?
Because The World is not a traditional cruise, there are few planned activities beyond shore excursions and few shows. The traditional English-style Cigar Club and The Garden tea room and lounge do attract residents when they go outside their personal space, and there is a billiard room and an extensive library. However, while residents are friendly with each other, most stick to their plush apartments and luxurious balconies instead of socializing by the pools.
Active owners make use of the 7,000-square-foot World Spa & Wellness Center, the retractable marina for water sports and full tennis court.
