Gate 1 Travel Cruises Tips, Activities, and Overview

Who goes on Gate 1 Travel cruise ships?

Gate 1 Travel river cruisers are budget-conscious travelers originating primarily from the U.S., Canada or Australia. Each sailing boasts a mix of seasoned travelers along with less frequent travelers -- even some first-time visitors to Europe. While river cruises are generally most appealing for travelers aged 50 plus, ages and income levels vary.

Do I have to dress up on a Gate 1 Travel cruise?

A little. In keeping with most river cruise lines, Gate 1 Travel does not impose any kind of dress code on its river cruises. The onboard vibe during the daytime is relaxed and casual. Most people change for dinner and wear something a little smarter, but jeans and casual tops are perfectly acceptable. At the final night captain's gala dinner, some passengers choose to dress in smarter attire.

Is everything free on Gate 1 Travel cruises?

No. Fares include one walking or coach tour in every port, basic Wi-Fi in public areas and a choice of red and white wine, beer and soda with dinner. Aside from water, which is freely available at every meal, any drinks ordered during lunch are at extra cost, along with beverages from the bar. Additional optional excursions also carry a fee and gratuities are not included.

What are Gate 1 Travel’s most popular activities?

Shore excursions are the no. 1 activity for Gate 1 travelers, and while the included options are almost always full, the extra-fee choices are also popular. Onboard, cruisers tend to congregate in the lounge reading a book or chatting with other cruisers.

Why go with Gate 1 Travel?

  • Affordable cruises
  • At least one walking or coach tour excursion included in each port
  • Wine, beer and soft drinks included with dinner

Best for: Mature, budget-conscious river cruisers; fans of Gate 1's land tours

Not for: Families, luxury cruisers and anyone looking for a fast-paced vacation

Gate 1 Travel Cruises Cruiser Reviews

fabulous trip, no complaints. This company is wonderful in all aspects

The water was lowering quickly, and in order to get to see France on the one day we were there, the ship had to go ahead to Germany in order to continue the trip by river.BUT that meant that we missed seeing all the castles along the Rhine, so to make up for that, they rented a ferry that woud take anyone who wanted to go, back down the river so that we got to see all the wonderful parts that we missed seeing on the way up from France.Read More

Another amazing trip from Gate 1

We just felt that with the morning included tour, having three tours in one day would be too much, and also limit our free time in the city. The included tour was excellent, as were the two optional tours we took—the dinner and show tour, and the taste of Budapest tour.Read More
