Cruises to Dover (Tennessee)

About Dover (Tennessee)

Dover, a small town on Tennessee's Cumberland River, is home to some significant Civil War history. In February 1862, the Union Army experienced their first major victory of the war when they captured Fort Donelson, a riverside battery that helped control river traffic and secure the region. The Fort Donelson National Cemetery, and the Dover Hotel -- also known as The Surrender House -- are other important Civil War sites.

At the W. D. Sykes Historical Museum, you can get a better sense of the Civil War's impact on the town and learn more of the town's history as docents -- one of whom grew up in the house -- are on hand to lead tours and answer questions.
