Cruises to Alcudia

About Alcudia

Alcudia, located on the northern coast of Mallorca (Spain), combines Mediterranean beaches with historic settlements dating to the Roman, Moorish and Spanish conquerors. While most ships will call on Palma de Mallorca when visiting the Spanish island, some smaller vessels will visit Alcudia as an alternative port.

On arrival, you'll be struck by the Miami-like beachfront hotels and yacht harbors, set against a more Mediterranean backdrop of sparsely covered, craggy hills. The walled town of Alcudia and the neighboring Roman ruins of Pollentia are a short bus drive from the port.

Admire the 14th-century wall and yellow buildings, shimmering in the sun, as you stroll the narrow streets. Be sure to peer around intriguing corners, browse the shops of light cotton dresses and local salts, and stop for a sangria at one of the open-fronted cafes in the central square.

Why go to Alcudia?

Pros:

Lovely walled town with shops and restaurants, adjacent to a Roman ruin

Cons:

You cannot walk anywhere from the port; you need a shuttle, tour or taxi

Bottom Line:

A low-key alternative to Palma with plenty of attraction choices

Currency & Best Way to Get Money?

The local currency is the euro; check online for current currency conversion figures. You'll find banks and ATM machines in Alcudia's central square.

Language?

The main languages in Mallorca are Catalan and Spanish, and many of the signage you find will be in Catalan, not Spanish. Locals speak both, and many shop or restaurant owners will speak English, as well.
