U.K. territory Pitcairn has a total population of just 56 people, making it the second smallest capital in the world. Its inhabitants are descended from the famous mutineers of HMAV Bounty and their Tahitian wives who stumbled across the striking islands by chance in 1790. Although long bypassed by tourism, the island attracts a handful of cruise lines, drawn by the island's history, natural beauty and welcoming locals.

Sights include the Pitcairn Islands Museum, the cemetery, the local market and the church, which is home to the bible from the Bounty. And there's the resident Galapagos Tortoise Miz.T.

If a landing is not possible, Adamstown will come to you at sea, with onboard lectures and a visit from the Pitcairn Curio and Craft Market. Local treats include honey, jewellery, wooden carvings, hand-woven baskets and models of the Bounty.
