Cruises to Cape Leveque

About Cape Leveque

Dust off your camera because if there's anywhere in Australia that will inspire you to get snap happy, it's Cape Leveque. This remote area in the Kimberley region is blessed with vibrant blues and rusty red earth, striking rock formations and bright white sand.

Although it's one of Australia's most picture-perfect destinations, it has been rarely visited because it's so hard to reach. Those visiting by car have to tackle a long and rough road to the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, north of Broome, which is why arriving by cruise ship is an appealing option.

More than just a photo op however, this stunning stretch of coastline is a nature lover's dream with great snorkelling and the chance to view migrating humpback whales between July and October.

It is also home to the Indigenous Bardi Jawa community. Take the opportunity to gain an insight into their way of life by taking a cultural tour and learning about the traditions, history and Dreamtime stories of the area.

Why go to Cape Leveque?

Pros:

Ochre earth, azure waters, vibrant sky -- the Cape's colours have to be seen to be believed.

Cons:

If spectacular scenery and nature doesn't impress you, you might feel bored here.

Bottom Line:

Indigenous culture, whale watching and snorkelling enhance this photogenic port.

Currency & Best Way to Get Money?

The Aussie dollar is the local currency, but ATMs are few and far between in some of the more remote areas. Kooljaman is the main eco-resort in the area and you'll find an ATM here -- the award-winning wilderness camp is well worth a visit even if you're not staying there.

Language?

The official language is English but the people in the Bardi Jawa community also speak Bardi.
