A stormy voyage

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Balmoral

I chose this cruise because it was offering the three Fred’s in Funchal. The meeting of all three of Fred Olsens ships. I obtaienes a late solo traveller saver plus and was allocated a twin cabin for sole use on deck eight. Comfortable and spacious, well serviced but with an obscured view. Meals were taken in the Spey on deck ten. Good choice at breakfast, buffet or serviced. Ditto for the four ...

Excellent Experience ! Refurbished 2022

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Bolette

We have experienced 4 different types of Cruises... a block family booking of a Turkish Gulet (brilliant), a large NCL Ship 5,000 guests (Butlins-on-Sea ...not for us), a Tall Clipper Ship ( 150 guests...brilliant), and now Fred Olsen... 800 guests (600+ staff !) , We sailed to La Coruna, the Canaries and back via Madeira. We decided to ignore the negative reviews (ignore now, as the ship ...

Decent Cruise

This was our 26th cruise, 13th on Fred Olsen. While the cruise was ok, Olsen is not as good as it was before change of management. The outstanding feature is the crew. They are the very best of any cruise line we have been on. Efficient, friendly, helpful and always smiling. Many of them remeber us. The food was ok, The View self service restaurant is far better than the formal dining room, where ...

Wanting to celebrate Christmas and New Year away from the doom laden 2021, our plans had to be changed due to the uncertainty of travel to the U.S. A lucky chance took us to this cruise which included the Canary Islands for Christmas and to the fabulous firework display in Madeira for New Year. We have travelled with Fred only once before and found the whole experience comfortable and ...

WE WOULD CRUISE AGAIN WITH FRED OLSEN

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Borealis

We wanted to get away from home before we went "stir crazy" it has been a difficult 18 months! We fancied some winter sun but didn't want to sit in a 'plane for 4 hours, so went on a Fred Olsen 14 day cruise around the Canary Islands on the Borealis. This is not a new ship but Fred Olsen has done an excellent job of refurbishment; we were impressed with the overall standard of decoration and ...

Almost like old times!

We travelled on Bolette's second voyage in the summer and were so impressed that we booked on board for this one. A voyage to the Canaries is always one of our favourites as it is around two weeks and is usually a sunshine cruise at whatever time of year. Check in at Dover was simple and we were pleased to find that the 'probes' used in the Covid test were much more comfortable to use than the ...

rewards for oceans members appalling compared to previously: no fred olsen pens [surely this is a free advert when cruisers leave them around or lend them , miserable selection snacks as only reward for diamond oceans members [one between two!!]. guest entertainers very poor. tap dancers may be talented but who want to have to endure two shows of them. comedian OK but other musicians no one wants ...

Good cruise but not for everyone!

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Braemar

First the negatives. Passengers were very old with many needed walking aids. A bit like a floating care home. The ship is older and small and the cabins are small too. Entertainment and facilities are basic. But all these were in my mind counteracted by the excellent staff, food and friendliness of all aboard. We ate in the Grampian on the top deck with first class views. Drinks prices throughout ...

Summer sun

Review for a Europe - All Cruise on Balmoral

We wanted to get away for some summer sun in January but didn't want the hassle of flying so a cruise from Southampton to Madeira and the Canary Islands sounded perfect, and it was. We couldn't believe how smooth embarkation was. On arrival at Southampton a member of staff was ready to whisk our bags away before we had even parked and within minutes of arrival we were sat in the Observation ...

A winter birthday celebration in the warmth of the Canary Islands

Not many people post about Fred Olsen, maybe because so many passengers are returning guests, on this cruise over half those on board had silver Oceans club membership or above, so Fred must be doing something right. We were on our fifth cruise and third with Olsen, also our second on the Balmoral The itinerary to the Canaries was similar to our previous time but we did not mind because we like ...
