We picked this cruise to catch the Fall colors along the St. Lawrence and for first time visits to Canadian maritime provinces. This was our first experience with HAL. We selected it because of the good itinerary and competitive cost.
PROS: this is a big, safe and high tech ship. Nice atmosphere at the Casino. There was always good and consistent temperature in all public areas and cabins...very compfortable. Good support from the Front Desk staff.

We were getting tired of the continuing ninety degree days here in Virginia so we wanted to go to Canada. HAL surprisingly was one of the few cruise lines still accepting new customers and not sold out. We booked this cruise, and paid a premium price over a similar Princess cruise, because of the itinerary including stops in Newfoundland. It was a big change for two Princess Platinum "lifers". My goal was St. Anthony with a tour to Anse des Meadows and the ancient Viking settlement. Hurricane Earl killed that idea and those stops were off the list. Sad but not a fault of the ship.

Typically cruise on Princess but wanted to try this due to itinerary. Hard not to compare Princess against Holland America. On the positive side we like the larger bathroom. Also the staff is great.
