Children in adult areas a pain

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Noordam

I write this from the Rolling Stone Lounge on MS Noordam. A lovely time overall, the band is awesome!!!! but children under 10 running wild at 10:15pm in the rolling stone lounge with inadequate parental supervision is not my my idea of a good time. Precocious children spoil the fun for adults who just want to have a good time from an adult perspective. A few drinks and a bit of a dance is ...

Not bad, but did not live up to expectations

Review for a Australia & New Zealand Cruise on Westerdam

Our 16 night repositioning cruise to Singapore started at Sydney airport where we were transported to the ship by our pre-booked transfer. Boarding was quick and efficient. The VeriFly app which we had been encouraged to use was a bit of a waste of time and not taken seriously by the check-in personnel. The Westerdam is tastefully decorated with almost no signs of wear and tear. A big bonus ...

Not very happy HAL

We returned from a Noordam -Christmas Cruise on the 17th December 2022 -Sydney to Sydney. and sadly we found Holland America standards had fallen dramatically. We have always had a very good experience on the many Holland America cruises we have undertaken in the past. The food was very substandard and to receive a decent meal the menu indicated payment of surcharge was required. The lunch ...

Not what it used to be!

First time back on the westerdam since 2019 and have found the changes onboard very disappointing. There has been lots of cost cutting in the dining with a lack of fresh vegetables replaced with rice, quinoa and mashed potatoes, there has been very few steaks or lamb unless you now pay extra for them, no scallops or escargot and no baked Alaska so far. The sommeliers are no longer so wine ...

Not much entertainment, little thought for coeliacs, but the ship is lovely.

We had never been with Holland America before so were unsure what to expect. Other passengers on the cruise said that the line used to be better, but as there is only one opportunity to make a first impression, unfortunately Holland America has missed the mark here. Firstly - if you are coeliac, don't bother. Hubby is, and unless he would be satisfied with eating salad 100% of the time, there ...

Amazing service staff, nice size ship, management and entertainment poor

Embarkation. Best we have ever had. Used Verify for Vax and test status, so easy and quick. Cabin. SS category very spacious and clean. Ice delivered twice a day. Cabin stewards and general staff. Amazing, friendly and helpful. Cafe. Awful, awful, awful. Dining room. Good at start, but declined. Nowhere near as good quality as experienced on New Amsterdam 4 years ...

Not the same now that Carnival have an interest

I will start with the title of this review. Embark, disembark all OK - most lines have this in the bag. We chose this cruise on Noordam, because we love Vancouver, we wanted to go to Sydney and we love sea days. This cruise bore not the remotest resemblance to our 2 x cruises on Volendam Dec.16 and April 18. Where has the elegance gone? The fresh flowers everywhere? The sophistication? ...

Nice cruise, not brilliant, a little bit disappointing.

Unfortunately, HAL has gone downhill in our opinion. We haven't cruised with them for a few years due to dates and prices, so were expecting similar experiences that we had before. The ship itself is kept extremely clean and the staff are wonderful. The main issues were the food, entertainment and the Loft (lack of). Firstly, the food in the main dining room for the first few days of ...

Tired looking ship, poor customer service

When we booked the cruise we were unaware that our departure was from the White Bay Cruise Terminal. Only good point was you sail right under the Harbour Bridge. On the back deck when leaving Sydney, the atmosphere was very lack luster, no music to signal the start of the journey, although there were drinks available, you had to guess if they were alcoholic or not. There was no photographer taking ...

All ports were good. Cruise Tours were very expensive so we organised our own. Left from White Bay and getting aboard was smooth and easy. Once we departed things were a bit disorganised. On stern pool deck there was a table of drinks but no assistance from wait staff as to price/type of cocktail. There was none of the usual atmosphere of departure (same at every port). Only advantage was going ...
