Main reason to travel was a "new ship" This should be reliable and meet our expectations. The ship was majestic and magnificent but mellowed in a few areas. Dining food was wet 60% of the time due to standing time. This means 40% was excellent. I measured this against Caribbean and Cunard where their food was very consistent Waiting to attend the theatre was potential safety issue because of crowd rushing to get seats in a theatre which was narrow walk ways and sit down space was like being on a cheap long haul flight. Designer of ships please note. 80% of all problems normally relate to poor design of one thing or another The one area which must be upto standard are beds, my bed sagged after 8 days, which caused my back to ache. Beds on ships must be commercial grade. I took plenty of shots of the ships, so it must have appealed to me. Read Less

The ship was excellent though too big. We had a balcony cabin on the 16th floor very good with unobstructed views. The staff couldn't be faulted.always smiling even though 50% of elderly passengers were rude and demanding without manners.!!! The children on board were better behaved with better manners than some adults. Not enough seating in the indoor entertainment area's of the ship.(piazza and the theatre's) had to get to an area for the show you wanted to see at least 45mins early. No area around the ship for a good walk the promanade deck only went up each side of the ship and very narrow. The market dining area we felt left left a lot to be desired. most food cooked in oils or butter, no plain or steamed food, no sandwich making facilities. Even though there were several area's of choice the food daily was same, same. The resturaunts were fantastic especially the pizza and sympony dining.the hamburger bar on the deck was good too. Too many people just walking in the dining area's without washing there hands. worry about nova virus with poor hand hygiene.The excursions were fantastic and the tour guides very good value for money and saw a lot of the islands. The ships staff getting you on and of the ship did a fantastic job with the number of people most of them very pushy and rude to the staff and other passengers. We went on this cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding had a fantastic day but because of limited entertainment seating indoors when the weather was too cold to sit on deck we spent most afternoons in our cabin watching the TV . could have done that at home.will go on another princess cruise but will go on a smaller ship. Getting on and off the ship was expidited with reasonable speed at the begining and end of the voyage. couldn't fault that. Overall feeling was that the ship catered for the Chinese and American market rather than the Australian. Read Less

We have traveled with Celebrity, Cunard, P & O and Princess and till now Princess was our clear favorite, but our experience over the past 3 weeks has left that favoritism in tatters! There were many negatives on this ship but I will start with some positives. The staff were all very helpful, polite and generally good at their jobs. The ship itself was extraordinarily stable with almost NO rocking and rolling over the entire 22 days even though we traveled from Asia to Australia. Their system of taking the passports from the passengers to ease the immigration processing worked in most cases and the tendering service on the one occasion it was used was extremely smooth. Sadly, the negatives affected our cruise more than the positives, with one having a major effect on us throughout most of the trip. I will work through them in a logical order. Some are not fixable but it is probably best if you are aware of them rather than being surprised later. For this particular cruise the boarding in Shanghai was a nightmare. I am told that Princess were not responsible for the debacle in Shanghai and had indeed tried to be in control and failed. All I can suggest is that in future they avoid Shanghai altogether. It ensured most of the passengers boarded the ship in less than a positive frame of mind and could well have been part of the reason so many people were negative about the ship . For our part, the cruise was spoilt by our inability to have the balcony door open at night, but more of that shortly. On the first evening we went to dinner in the any time dining restaurant, Symphony, at 6.30 only to be handed a buzzer and told to go away and wait till it buzzed!! I assumed they had made an error as there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant and told them I had any time dining, but they said they realised that and to take the buzzer and wait. 40 minutes later it went off and despite a preference for a table for two, we were forced to share a larger table of six if we didnt want a further delay! In all the cruises with all the different shipping lines we have sailed with that was the first time that had ever happened. Any time dining in the past referred to any time WE wanted to eat not any time the staff could fit us in! As a consequence to eating so late, I had severe indigestion that evening and in order to avoid that problem again we went to dinner at 5.45pm each night to ensure we got mostly the same table and didnt have to wait to be placed on a table. However it completely nullified the point of any time dining which is one of the main criteria we look for on a cruise. The other main essential for us is a cabin with a balcony so we can sleep with the door open at night. The reason we do this is because we enjoy fresh air and it usually avoids the problems associated with breathing recycled air conditioned air and the coughs and colds that often causes. On this cruise, despite paying so much extra for a balcony (and indeed a mini suite) we were unable to sleep with the balcony door open for all but the final few nights. The reason for that was a loud ''howling'' sound that erupted spasmodically from the wall next to the door when it was opened. Sometimes it was a high pitched whistle and other times it sounded like the night of the living dead! On the morning of the second day, we asked the cabin steward to listen to the sound and see if it could be fixed. He appeared horrified and baffled by the noise and told us he would get someone to look into it. Nothing happened so we assumed it was something structural which could not be fixed at sea and started sleeping with the door closed. Whilst it had an impact on the cruise from our point of view, we understand that sometimes there are events that are outside peoples control. However, on the 18th day an engineer came to the cabin to check our fridge and while he was there I asked if he knew what was causing the wailing sound when the door was opened. He listened to it and recorded it on his phone after tracing it to the panel of the bulkhead beside the door and told me to call reception and request a carpenter. I did this as he waited, but all that achieved was the cabin steward arrived asking if I had called for him. I explained I had asked the engineer about the noise we had told him about 2 weeks earlier and he called down to someone and spoke to them in a foreign language and left after telling me a carpenter was on his way. After a while we left the cabin as well. 8 hours later I called down to reception to ask if the carpenter had been as the noise was still there and they said he had been and not heard the noise when he opened the door and left! I had explained it wasnt constant but irregular and often. After dinner there was a message to call reception if the noise started - which it did almost immediately. They said the carpenter would be there, but it took about 2 hours for him to arrive! Around 10.15 that night the carpenter came. The noise was very much on and off and not as serious as before but he did at least hear it and started banging a hammer on a screw driver. A manager arrived part way through and then when the noise stopped they both left and the carpenter said he would check back in the morning to see if the noise was gone. In the morning we advised him it was substantially reduced but still there a little and he then filled several gaps with silicone and from then on it was perfect. However it was annoying to discover we had paid for a mini suite for the balcony and not been able to use it for all but the final 3 nights despite pointing out the problem on the first full day! We may as well have paid for an ocean view for all the good of it. THAT issue obviously had a major impact on our cruise and its enjoyment. But it was not the only one. On the Majestic there is no promenade deck as such. On EVERY cruise ship we have traveled on in the past we could walk around the entire deck with a nice view and fresh air as we go. This was not possible on the Majestic and I believe that is a major design flaw. We took a Princess shore tour in Singapore and have to say we were shocked by the poor condition of the coach we traveled in. It was quite old and the air con was VERY limited. Worse still when the engine idled it was impossible to hear the guide speaking and the smell of petrol became quite over powering at the back of the bus where we were seated.Having said that, we could see the other coaches were all quite new, so it is possible we were unlucky. However the tour ended at some markets in China Town. They were about the least inspiring markets I have ever seen and having driven past all the fabulous stores on Orchard Street, a stop THERE would have been far better than ending up in a smelly third rate market! Due to the passenger numbers on the ship, there is another problem - not enough places for passengers to sit and read quietly. Most of the common areas are so full, there isnt a seat to sit on at times and far too much noise when there is. The lounge in front of the Hollywood Club was either full up (which it was all day) or the odd person would come and play the musical instruments around the place (BADLY) to interrupt any attempts to have a quiet moment in the evening. I am sure that sounds picky, but a lot of passengers look for that little place to sit and have some peace on board. On Majestic it really doesnt exist. For Trivia, there were more people than seats which resulted in my missing out a few times and I assume others missing out when I didnt! The room just wasnt big enough for the passenger numbers. The little nook and cranny problem was exacerbated by some of the few areas available being closed off now and again so a British film crew could film a fake wedding or give a (fake) impression of quiet areas on board as they made their free advert for Princess which will be shown on English TV shortly.! Finally I should mention the entertainment, which was disappointing. In over 3 weeks there were only 3 major stage shows on board - UNHEARD of on any other cruise where they are usually every second or third night. Whilst the value of the other entertainers is very much subjective and affected by personal opinion, the stage shows by the singers and dancers are what most of the passengers look forward to and less than one a week is pathetic! As for the other entertainers, some were good and some were iffy at best. I wont criticise individuals because as I said it is all a matter of personal opinion but for me, I have certainly seen better on every other cruise in the past. These are not all the problems or all the things that adversely affected the cruise for us, but I am sure if these had not been applicable the rest of the problems with have dimmed into insignificance. We may reconsider, Princess in the future, but at this moment we are very disappointed with them. Read Less

We booked this cruise using Marriott Vacation Club points for the 2 nights from Brisbane to Sydney. We wanted to experience the maiden voyage into Sydney. We found the ship to be in very good condition and enjoyed the experience very much. The food was excellent, having anytime dining we tend to eat late and was seated straight away at a table for 2. The world market place, I found the food fantastic, and in fact the 2nd night we had dinner there, as we did not fancy anything on the main dinning room menu. We enjoyed the noodle bar for lunch. The production show we thought was fantastic, it was new, and very enjoyable. We got to the Princess theatre 15 minutes before the show, and had to seat up the front, to het a better seat maybe 1 hour to 30 minutes before showtime Would I travel on Majestic Princess in the future, yes, have I cruised other cruise lines before, yes. We have been on 13 cruises and spent 147 days at sea, we are Platinum members with Princess, this review is from our perspective and is based on our experiences on previous cruises we have done and the video and written marketing expectations created by Princess. Embarkation was a disaster with people queued for 2.5 to 5 hours in the heat with one person being taken away by ambulance, I accept Princess can't control Chinese Immigration but they can control the comfort of their guests whilst waiting in the queue, there was 2 air-conditioned terminals in use, the first one was used to drop off your bags, you were then ushered outside into the heat to queue for 1.5 to 3 hours to get to the next terminal, they could have seated us in the first one and shuttled us over when space was available, reading other reviews about the Majestic from Shanghai it seems they encounter this issue often and have failed to resolve it. The ship itself was impressive to start but as the cruise went on you encountered the flaws, the Hollywood area was our favourite area, we found most of the bars to be too small only seating round 20 people and very hard to get a seat most of the cruise, The Theatre and Princess live rooms were cramped with tight seats and nowhere to put your drink, overall it did not live up to their marketing videos. FOOD Included restaurants: Very disappointing, at best I would say equal to a cheap RSL club meal and not as good as that at times, an example of one night Filet Mignon was on the menu, my wife ordered it and what came out was 4 tough rump cubes on a skewer, when we said that was wrong and repeated her order we were told, yes that's our version, when I said everywhere in the world it is a piece of eye filet steak wrapped in bacon, we were told he would let the chefs know what we said, the standard of food only increased in the last 2 days of the 22 day cruise, when we left Brisbane where a group of travel agents and I think some company executives boarded, that night in the dining room we had rack of lamb cooked to perfection and an amazing chocolate dome desert, the next day in the upstairs buffet, the spread of food was the best we had seen all cruise, to the point even the chefs were coming out with their phones and taking pictures of what they had put out on offer, I can only assume the travel agents were scheduled to have lunch there. The Pizzeria Italian place had basic pizza and 2 pasta dishes that remained the same for the whole 22 day cruise and were quite bland in flavour, certainly nothing rememberable, the Lobster and Dim Dum bar that was supposed to be an included eatery (according to their web site), turned out to be a free burger bar (with bad burgers) and lobster that you had to pay $24 to $29 for and not a Dim Sum to be seen, The Stir Fry place had 3 items on it per day, 2 of these never change the whole cruise, we eat there twice and found we had to put chilli on to get some flavour into the dishes. The Chefs table: The Majestic videos create a great expectation and as soon as we got onboard we rang and got put on a list and despite several calls had to wait 10 days to be told that we were going to receive an invite to the chefs table at a cost of $125 each, instead of the usual Hors D'Oeuvres & Champagne followed by a 7+ course degustation with different wines matching each course, we received 3 Hors D'Oeuvres with Champagne served in the Galley whilst standing at a trestle table, then taken to a very impressive table within the dining room, to be given what was essentially a 3 course meal with a sorbet between entrée and main with one white wine, one red wine and a desert wine, which made it the most expensive and least impressive chefs table out of the 9 we have done. Speciality dining restaurants: After the overall experience at the other eateries we decided to give the Crown Grill ago, again very disappointing and not worth the $35 each cover charge, the Filet Mignon was at least eye fillet but still no bacon wrapped around it, no sauces (eg pepper, mushroom etc) available just a gravy, limited vegetables and when I asked for carrots and beans/peas I was told they did not have any but could go down to the other restaurant to get them but it would take a very long time, in other words my meal would be cold or finished by the time he got back, after that meal we decided not to waste any more money on the speciality restaurants, we asked other passengers if they tried the French or Chinese ones and got mixed responses but neither of these were busy and the French one is in a bad position open to the Piazza which had bands playing so you had to raise you voice to hear each other during dinner. ENTERTAINMENT Again very disappointing, only 3 production shows for the whole 22 days, other cruises had 2 to 3 per week, the first one was excellent and set a standard that was never meet again, the second was like a free RSL Tuesday night show and only went for 2 thirds of the time, the third was a bit better, let’s say a Friday night RSL free show. The other guest entertainers were of a free RSL mid week level and the piano player in Crooners bar was given the nick name by a few passengers of "the Screecher" which speaks for itself and the guitar soloist had to have the "echo" of the vocal microphone turned up to cover the quality of his voice (the same way they do it at karaoke) except for the band "The Drop" which we felt were very good, the entertainment was a low standard. There is no night club and the bands play in the Piazza area, so it’s like dancing in a Westfield mall, later the DJ plays in Crooners bar which was the VIP casino when it was based in Asia, so it has a low ceiling, partitions blocking the view, no real dance floor and bad acoustics, the DJ was told on many occasions to turn the volume down by his superiors. CABIN We had an inside cabin and thought it was the best cabin of that type we have ever had, the beds were awesome and we always had a good night’s sleep (the pillows were soft which my wife loved but I was not so keen on), there was a large screen TV with movies on demand, which was great for a long cruise, everything was clean and kept that way by our cabin steward, when we arrived 2 draws had their runners broken but they fixed it within a couple of hours when we reported it. SHORE EXCURSIONS We only did 2 of these the first was in Busan where the guide took us a different route which turned out to be harder for the older people and some could not make it all the way to the Temple, on the way back I left the group and followed the original route which was more scenic and would have been less strenuous for the group as the steps were in small groups and low level, when we were asked which way we wanted to go there were only 2 responses, 1 for each way so the guide made the decision. The second tour was in Nha Trang, the guide could hardly speak English (not like the ship told us) and spoke at such a low level that if you were not in the front 2 rows (as the majority of us were) you could not here or understand anything, at each stop we were told "the attraction is up there be back in 20mins etc" and left to do our own self guided tour, at one stop he lost 6 people due to bad instructions and we had to wait for 30 mins while he went off to find them. In Hong Kong and Singapore we did our own thing and got the Hop on Hop off Bus and had a much better experience. SUMMARY We went on board with high expectations created by the Princess marketing and were very disappointed with what we received, we had intentions of purchasing a future cruise deposit for a 31 day Mediterranean cruise next year on the Emerald Princess but after what we experienced on this cruise we did not get one and if this is an example of the new offering from Princess, we are unsure if we will sail with them again, surely on their newest and biggest ship which has been sailing for over 12 months they should have had time to get it right. Nice ship designed for the Asian market but I don’t think it will suit the Western market without some major adjustments to the bar and entertainment areas as well as a major improvement to the food and quality of entertainment. We were very excited to be sailing on Majestic Princess to Australia and after veiwing videos sent to us by Princess on what we could expect, we had high expectations. What a let down. Embarkation was a nightmare, just over 2 hours of standing in the heat before we boarded. We were lucky, others told us it took 4-5 hours, they did nothing to assist the elderly or people with walkers. One passenger collapsed and was taken away by ambulance! The ship itself is beautiful, but even though it has many bars, most of them only seat about 20 people, and some of these seats were taken by people reading books or knitting. There is no nightclub, so most of the dancing is done in the Atrium with limited floor space. The food was very average, we did anytime dining, so ate in the restaurant most days. The food often didn't match the description, one night I ordered Fillet Mignon and got beef kebabs! I did query this with the waiter and was assured it was Fillet Mignon. It seemed no effort was being put into our meals until we reached Brisbane where some Travel agents got on and then suddenly we had the best meal of the entire cruise. I don't think this was a coincidence and most people felt the same. The Market place was very confusing and the food very repetitive, until again after Brisbane, they had an amazing spread of food. The great production shows we were promised consisted of 1 brilliant show and 2 average shows for the whole 3 week cruise. The rest of the entertainment was mostly B grade, again it felt like this was a relocation cruise, so little effort was put in to give us great entertainment. We ate at the Bar and Grill, which was and extra charge, and was very dissappointed. We asked for a pepper sauce or mushroom sauce to go with our steaks and was told there wasn't any, just a very watery jus. There was a selection of sides to choose from, but the waiter said he would bring us all of them. He didn't bring the jacket potatoes and when we asked for them, we got 3 for a table of 4. The Hollywood inside pool area was lovely and we spent most of our time there. The cabin was nice and the beds very comfy. We spoke to many people on the cruise, a lot of them had sailed with Princess before, and they all said how dissappointed they were and it was the worst Princess cruise they had done. Again it felt like little effort was put in because we were relocating, but we won't be sailing with Princess again. Read Less

The ports were beautiful, the ship not so. Not enough entertainment or bars. Seats in theather so tiny and cramp in . the tenders we were packed in like sardines. The embarking in Shanghai took 4 hours where Royal Caribbean is done in 30 minutes. People were fainting and the bus from one terminal to the other in Shanghai had luggage in the isle of bus and we had to unload ourselves . I will never cruise with Princess again. Nice ship but nothin to do onboard. No entertain for the younger group. The lounges and seats in Main Theather are so tiny and no where to place your drink. If some one in the middle needs to get out every one has to get out to let one person out. The tenders we were packed in like sardines. The beverage package is over priced for a 15 drink limit and kept being charge for drinks I never had. Always keep checking your account.Never again will I cruise with Princess. Read Less

SHIP: We chose this cruise as we had not visited any of the destinations previously, save for Brisbane where we remained on board. The ship is indeed a large vessel, but that's the way its going these days. The crew had been used to servicing Asian customers who generally have a different cultural expectation to that of westerners. There were approximately 2700 Aussies on board with the next group being Americans numbering only approximately 90. I think the crew did a magnificent job accommodating and adapting to the expectations of the Aussie passengers, although it did take a few days. There were many complainers on board that we noticed, but hey as other reviewers of other vessels say, look for the positives and not the negatives. CABIN: We booked M130 a deluxe balcony cabin. This was well appointed, tho a little smaller than the equivalent on Pacific Pearl. Standard features, Large comfy bed and couch with a smallish balcony containing two chairs and a small table. Our cabin Steward was attentive and friendly and provided for all our requests. DINING: We chose anytime dining and the "World Fresh Marketplace" provided a wide and varied choice for all meals. A favorite being the bakery which had a large selection of cakes and sweets to follow your meals with. The other dining choices including Crown Grill and Harmony Chinese were of a great standard and ample food was served at our 2 sittings for each of these. We did not try LaMer simply because we are not fond of French cuisine. The other eateries including Alfredo's Pizzeria and the Burger Bar and International cafe were also of a high standard serving a variety of choices. ENTERTAINMENT & ACTIVITIES: We found the entertainment on-board to be of a high standard. The shows in the main theatre were great. We did not like the american entertainer (pianist) in the crooners bar as she did not know the words to songs she was playing, and repeated the same performance for all 22 nights we were aboard. Also if we wanted karaoke we would have gone else where. Using passengers to supplement her inabilities did not go down well with not only us but others we were sitting near. One of the older american passengers ,named Francine, she used managed to racially slur the whole Asian population and this was inappropriate. Hopefully she will not be aboard any future cruises we undertake. Overall, however, the entertainment standard was high and varied enough to provide a choice every night for the whole 22 night cruise. SERVICE: The crew were impeccable in their willingness to be best with their service. Particularly we would like to mention Nenad in the International Cafe and Sascha in the gift shop. These two gentlemen went out of there way to accommodate requests and help us with purchases on board. All of the crew and hotel staff were friendly and courteous when we needed assistance. A big thanks to the medical staff on board who assisted us with an injury we sustained on the tender transfer into NhaTrang. PORTS & EXCURSIONS: This trip we only took Princess Shore Excursions and we found these to be interesting and informative. Only one tender transfer was required at NhaTrang and although it was hot and humid we managed this without major hiccup. We thoroughly enjoyed this cruise, and yes we were aware of issues at boarding in Shanghai, however this is something the Chinese authorities need to address and Princess need to keep abreast of. We heard many passengers complaining about things that to us seemed insignificant, so again I say look for the positives people not the negatives. If that's what you set out to do you are bound to have a crap holiday. We on the other hand enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and would sail again on this class of vessel if the itinerary appealed to us. I will start with the positives - disembarkation at Sydney was fast and efficient. That's the positives taken care of! So now the ship and the cruise! The ships main problem is too many passengers and not enough public areas - so it is ALWAYS busy and finding a seat is not easy. Embarkation took over 3 hours for most people thanks to total disorganization at the port. At meal times with any time dining we were given a buzzer and told to come back when it buzzed - 40 minutes later it buzzed, so any time dining doesnt mean any time you want to dine, it means any time they want to seat you. The dining room was not full, they kept a lot of tables empty! Entertainment. What entertainment? In over 3 weeks there were just THREE stage shows with the singers and dancers and the rest of time they had VERY mediocre performers - for example an Asian Harmonica player had the first nights show in the theater and you have to ask yourself how entertaining could half an hour of a Harmonica player be? I will give you a hint, people were walking out after one tune and by the 4th more had left than remained! He also performed in other areas across the ship for the next week or so and the other artists that featured from then on were about as 'good'! The on board singing group were totally lacking in enthusiasm and ability. There is NO promenade deck! NEVER been on a ship without a deck to sit on and walk around the entire length of the ship - but Majestic doesn't have one. WHO on earth approved THAT design error? The coach supplied for our one Princess shore tour was old and smelled of petrol. We had trouble hearing the guide over the noise of the engine when it idled and the trip ended in a smelly awful market having driven past the beautiful shops of Orchard Road in Singapore. When our Mini suite balcony door was open, there was a hideous howling sound which made it impossible to leave it open at night. The noise was pointed out to the cabin steward on the first morning and yet was not fixed till the 18th day!! Our cabin was rarely cleaned before lunch and our friends cabin had a continuous smell of stale urine from day 1. This on a relatively NEW ship! Wines ran out long before the cruise ended and the one remaining red wine by the glass, a nasty, inferior and over priced drop was desperately offered from that point on. The wines werent even restocked when we made landfall. So many people tried to use the laundry to get tokens for the machines, but more often than not it charged their cruise card and didnt deliver tokens. I waited 40 minutes in the laundry for someone who I was told 4 times was on their way to arrive before giving up! An Elite member, who have their washing done for them as part of their loyalty program, was using the laundry on one occasion when I was there because she said it had taken FIVE days for her wash to come back when they sent it for the service wash - so much for loyalty. Having previously cruised with Princess we looked forward to the usual facilities and service and found neither up to their usual standard. The balcony on Majestics Mini Suite is substantially smaller than their other ships and despite the ship being less than two years old it felt shabby. When advised of the problems we had experienced, Princess offered us a pathetic $250 each towards a future cruise in compensation, which we turned down as it is clear Princess has lowered its standards across the board and none of their ships will be as they once were. So in closing, avoid Majestic Princess at all costs. AVOID Princess or severely lower your expectations because they are heading down the same road as their partner P & O. Read Less

Spent 22 days on the Majestic and wish we had not spent a single night on board. The boarding was hell, the food wasnt very good and the any time dining simply didnt work out. Unless we ate at 5.45 we would have to wait ages for a table even though they werent all full. The entertainment was so bad we only went to 5 shows over the entire three weeks and the Princess cruise dancers and singers only performed 3 times over the entire period. What a joke on a cruise ship. So many things didnt work as they should it is hard to remember them all. Several types of wine ran out and werent replaced even when we docked. The laundry token machines were always empty but still charged our cabin for the tokens we didnt get. Our room was only clean on the surface and was never tidied till lunch time each day - obviously the cabin steward had too many cabins to look after - probably due to a shortage of staff. The balcony door impersonated moaning minnie or a howling Banshee when it was open forcing us to keep it closed and make the extra payment for a balcony over an ocean view a total waste. Despite all that, Princess thought the problems we had had were worth $250 in future cruise deposits for each of us but if we wanted to accept their offer, we would have had to write back to them 16 days before they sent us the offer.
