We were soon on the ship after arriving in Southampton. Our stateroom was a standardbalcony. It had new carpets, bed and settee all good after the recent refurbishment, the bed cover was a really nice blue and we were please to see a bottle of bubbly in an ice bucket ready for us. This room had a nice large television as well. The Captain at the lifeboat drill warned the ship was going into rough water and she was spot on as soon as we reached the Eng Channel. Many people told me they had been sea sick and did not recover until the end of day two when the ship reached calm waters. After this and on the way back we had very calm seas. The ship was very well decorated for Christams and looked lovely, everything was well organised, the ship had an air of calmness. We were given a very nice Christmas card and matching Christmas menu and a present each. Our state attendent Hernando worked tirelessly and there were no issues in respect of the cabin. We loved the free room service especially the brekfasts and lunch sandwich's and warm apple pie and cream!! Time spent in the gym soon got rid of the excess treats. The gym staff were very committed and although I do my own excercises, those that asked for help and training were well advised. Ethan from SA always said hello, even when busy, which was a nice gesture. Although not a fan of gyms in the past I felt good here and felt encouraged to go everyday!. The ship employed several hosts, who danced at the parties no one was pressured to join in, The Spanish hostess Silve had a nice personality and as the floor was never empty guests soon got up and the parties went well. In previous reveiws I had notedthe cost of wine on the ship and this needs looking at as a matter of urgency. Cunnard have the ability to buy good wines at a price which means they can make a profitand sell wine at a price lower than £10.00 a class plus 15% SC. Our bar bill was thelowest ever and this is not to the benefit of the ship sales or staff wages. The weather was particularly good in Tenerife and we had a lovely sea day on Christmas day to enjoy all outside decks and pool. There was always a seat on top deck and there was table tennis and short mat bowls, which was fun. However all too soon we were heading back, with this cruise from Southampton in December you are going to have several days when you are not going to be able to use the outside areas. I would have like to have seen the Officers including the Captain more round the ship, especially on the decks and in the lido doing unannounced spot checks, as this helps to maintain high standards thoughout the ship. Having said my experience was that overall the crew gave everything and I was lucky to share Christmas aboard with them on this lovely ship Queen Elizabeth. Read Less

For my first ever cruise I wanted it to be an unforgettable experience on what I thought of as a "classic" ship, ie one with a black hull, white decks & red funnels. Which is why I ended up booking my maiden voyage on a Cunard ship! From the outset we were very impressed: the Art Deco interior appealed to us greatly, as did the attentive service and friendly staff. Not knowing whether I'd take to cruising, I booked the cheapest cabin option but was still content with the room, even though it was windowless. Frankly, it made little difference as we spent the minimum possible time in it as we enjoyed either the ship's facilities or going ashore opportunities to the full. It seems that Cunard has addressed the niggles mentioned by CC's official reviewer as, for example, the staff in the Lido restaurant were falling over themselves to fill & refill my coffee cup and were only too happy to help guests to their seats with their plates. The entire experience was most enjoyable and - compared to an equivalent stay in a 4.5 / 5 star hotel - excellent value for money. The rigourously enforced formal dress code after 6pm in most areas of the ship appealed greatly, as a welcome short-term respite to the "come as you please" trend that currently holds sway in society. Whilst we were prepared for - and attracted to - the inevitable maturity of our fellow travellers (we DID NOT want our first cruise experience to be on a "party boat"!) we did not expect, as a couple in our 50s, to be amongst the youngest people on board, which was the case. There were a couple of niggles but nothing too serious. For example, the use of the Spa area was an additional cost option, and the formal, complementary cream teas offered at 3.30pm daily were served by surly, seemingly disinterested waiters. But all in all it was a most enjoyable first foray into the world of cruising. Read Less

This was our second in Queen Victoria. But the first since the 2017 alterations. Our reason was partly because the first was so good - not always the wisest reason - and the second because we wanted to get away. Embarkation at Mayflower Terminal, Southampton was flawless. No filling of health forms, no waiting on not so comfortable seats, straight to a check-in desk and on to the ship. I do not know why it was so quick, perhaps because we were latish for boarding. Be that as it may, by far the most efficient and fast. Our cabin on deck 4, with balcony was quite adequate, albeit the shower/toilet cubicle could hardly have been much smaller - significantly less than on our Brittany Ferry just a few hours before. But adequate overall, comfortable bed and well looked after by our steward whom, apart from initial contact, we never saw again. Deck 4 is I think at the lower end of cost structure, but the balconies are larger. Also closer to the theater and Britannia Restaurant levels. But a longish trek for the Lido self service, unless you take the lift. Eating at this catagory of cabin is at the Britannia Restaurant, either first or second sitting, for dining, which for us is either too early or too late, but that is the system. There is no freedom dining on Cunard unless you chose a specialty restaurant or a much more expensive catagory of cabin. There are now on Queen Victoria some very,very luxurious staterooms with restaurants to match, but we were never privileged to experience them. But the entertainment, such as it is, is common to all. Food, then, in the Britannia Restaurant is, for dinner, three courses. Quantity for us was ideal, but for some the portions are small. Quality and variety was on the whole good. Sometimes, very good. Waiter service was attentive skilful and courteous. On occasion however, our team was overpressed by having to deal with the cabin's table immediately alongside us. But overall, dinner was a pleasant experience, and for those careful of their weight, no great risk to it. As to drinks, we did not take any, simply because we live in France and the cost differential was just too great. The sommelier took this in good heart. Fort us, the disillusionment stemmed from the entertainment. This was a ten night cruise, with five sea days, and four ports of call. That results in a lot of time on board the ship. Filling that constructively and interestingly we found difficult. There were four guest speakers. Each was an expert in his given field - not always the case. Each we found interesting but others we spoke to did not. That is the risk. But in each case the lectures - Cunard call them Insight Lectures - were during the morning, often one after the other with just time to change the programme on the computer display machine. After that, for the rest of the day, there was a void until dinner time. So, on a cruise with several sea days, be careful to decide what you are going to do. With inclement weather at this time of year to be expected, you may have to amuse yourself. Reading a book brought from home may not be a memorable way of passing expensive days onboard. On the other hand, this ship has an impressive and extensive library. Evening entertainent: five singing and dancing shows, active but not elegant, with singing at the top of the voice And not the greatest at that. Apart from this, which is fine if you like it, there was one male entertainer, one female pianist who played with over panache apart from Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue which she clearly loved, one ancient TV show star, and two French acrobats of outstanding ability. Apart from this there was a number of specific interest groups such as story writing, knitting, ipad instruction ( at a cost), gin tasting ( at more cost), and speciality groups which we did not recognise So a comfortable and quite elegant ship with, for us, not enough to do in it Excursion bookable through Cunard were predictable if you have been this way before, which many passengers had. One, the moonscape walk on Lanzarote was outstanding. One in GranCanaria was pleasant. One in Vigo which we wanted to go and booked, was cancelled through lack of take-up. Something which in our experience, happens quite often. Homework before you go may well lead you to local tours at far less cost. As well as cost, if booked, the excursion will go ahead, unless Cunard cancels it. Just as well, in the event, since Vigo was blessed with poor weather. If all else fails, take the Vigo ferry across the estuary. It runs every twenty minutes, costs 2 euros and is fun. If you like that sort of thing. At least close to the water and sometimes pretty rough. Disembarkation is by stateroom catagory, the most expensive first. At deck 4, we were the second to last catagory, but the buffet was open throughout, the table tennis freely available, and offloading the passengers well ahead of schedule, so quite painless. This is a ship which still looks like a ship, even though for some, the alterations to the tiered deck stern has spoilt its lines. If that is not important to you, that does not matter. Would we go on this ship again? Not unless it was something really special. As was our first trip the Lusitania centenary. Read Less

The voyage was to the Canaries from Southampton. At the start , we were a little apprehensive due to the Bay of Biscay but the ship handled it well despite the 4Mtr swells. We had superb food in the Britannia restaurant and Lido, probably the best to date. We were also glad to see that Cunard were maintaining the dress code, I did not see anyone who was not dressed to the correct standard. The dress standard is what Canard is all about. The dining staff were extremely attentive and were very keen to try and please. The ship was decorated beautifully in readiness for Christmas, we even had a small Christmas tree in the room. Our Stateroom was very comfortable, the Cunard staff could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. The enrichment activities were wonderful, in particular the NASA talks by Jim Kennedy. Overall the evening entertainment was to a high standard in particular the Cunard show called Hollywood nights, especially the new introduction of the "Greatest showman" which we thought was stunning. Most of the evenings involved late night drinks in the Commodore club listening to a pianist/singer. Overall a fantastic cruise Read Less

We just arrived back home after sailing for 10 nights around the Canary Islands and Madiera. We originally were booked in a Queens Grill Q5 Cabin, but we received an offer from Cunard of purchasing an upgrade to Q1, which we chose to take up. For us it was very exciting to be sailing on the QV but to be sailing in a Q1 (The Aquataine Suite) was beyond exciting. We arrived at check in and everything went smoothly. We were on the ship very quickly and we were met at the entrance by our Butler who personally showed us to our suite. The Suite itself is amazing, absolutely huge and well fitted out. A bottle of Lauren Perrier Rose Champagne was on ice for us along with strawberries dipped in chocolate. Our Butler and Steward were both excellent and catered for all our needs. We missed our first lunch in the QG Restaruant as we were late arriving at the ship so we were both very much looking forward to dinner. When we originally booked our Q5 suite, 14 months ago, we booked it on board the QE and we specifically requested a window seat in the restaurant. However once we upgraded we felt that we would automatically be given a very good table. Much to our dismay on arriving in the restaurant we were placed on a table which was quite small and abutted a wooden pillar! Consequently my hb rather than being able to look out towards the sea view looked face on to the pillar.The table was also placed at an odd angle so my hb was also sticking out into the pathway of the waiters. Of course my hb spoke to the Maitre 'D who said he would try and move us. Ironically we found out later that the new couple who were in the Q5 suite we had previously booked, were on a larger table situated in the middle of the huge window! Anyway by the end of dinner the Maitre'D had been able to find us a new table which was as we originally hoped, with full window views. Our first night had therefore been tainted a little with this incident, but we didn't let it ruin which was so far a lovely time. However the first night in our suite was terrible! The sea was a little rough and consequently the ship was rolling a little, but this in itself didn't bother us as we have cruised many times. What was bad was that everything in the suite was rattling, creaking, banging...I felt that the whole room was going to break off and fall into the sea! Not what I expected at all. It was so noisy that both I and my hb just couldn't sleep. We informed the Butler the next morning but all he could offer was a door wedge for the worse offender! Obviously I believe this is a design fault in some way. There is a sliding door between the clothes hanging area and the doors to the toilets which just did not work, consequently it had been wedged open with a door stop. The Butler said he had informed maintenance as it had been like that for some time but nothing had been done so far. The rest of the journey continued to cause similar noises and bangs, depending on the severity of the sea. The engine noise was also very noticeable but we were expecting that being at the back of the ship. Our first morning we asked the Butler for our Ipad, which we had been told on our arrival would be brought each day and our choice of newspapers would be downloaded for our convenience. IT would then be removed in the evening in order for it to be updated. Unfortunately the Ipad never arrived, we asked the Butler twice, the concierge about 3 times but it never did arrive throughout the whole trip! The last disappointment was the width of our very long wrap around balcony. It was only approx 5 .5 foot wide and therefore the only way to stretch out in the (very little) sun was length ways, and the only way to look out to sea was by sitting upright on a chair. When we had been in a Q5 last year the balcony was much wider. It's a pity because I think they have unnecessarily sacrificed balcony space in favour of more room space even thought the rooms are already huge! Overall we had a fabulous trip but there were some downsides to this suite as I have pointed out. Would I go on QV again, yes without a doubt - would I choose this suite again....close call!! My wife & I have done many cruises over the last 10 years,And this has to be the the lower end of all we have done,If this had been our 1st it would have been our last,1 With CMV, 1 with Tui/Marella/Thomson,2 with Cunard & about 16 with P&O,The check in at Southampton was amazingly quick,15 mins from pulling up to cabin is the fastest we have ever experienced,After that it was nothing special,We were experiencing a banging noise outside our cabin,we did contact the pursers desk,the head deck steward did respond very quick,after 30 minutes or so,The desk phoned and said it was a faulty part on the deck above,deck 9 lido,and was required for operational purposes from 07:00 to 23:00 hrs.,They did give some compensation & ear plugs.We were hoping that the faulty part was going to be repaired or replaced at our 1st. stop,Madeira,but no it wasn't and we had to endure this noise for the whole of the Voyage.The there's the entertainment,Or lack of it,There was an illness with 1 of the theatre group,OK I can understand that the show had to be rearranged,so accepted that,but the rest was poor,Pat Patton the the Golden Lion EVERY night,not that good either,A Juggler on the theatre,Come on,we are not 10 year olds,There was 1 night they had a pianist in 3 different bars/venues at the same time,John Martin "comedian" seriously needs new material,He's been on cruise ships for years & is still using the sames gags,Keeps going on about being from Bootle,I thought Liverpool was full of comedians,John not one of them.Entertainments teams didn't mix with the passengers,Cunard like to call us guests,Equinox were good stuck up in the club,but that was empty,with no atmosphere,They did the Golden Lion one night & the Queens room on the last,both were rocking when they were there,I did tick the poor box on the feed back,And the Entertainment Director phoned my cabin & asked if I/We could have a talk about my poor comment,I felt like a naughty child being summonsed to the head teacher,But he was OK,Don't know the average age,We are both in our late 50s.,were very young compered to others,We mention this to the director that Cunard need to move with the times.and start looking after today's generation of cruisers and not who are in the latter years of life,He did seem a little shocked at that comment,But when he thought about it,knew what we meant,they need to rotate the entertainers,We were asked about a cigarette stump/butt on our balcony & we don't smoke, Everything else was great. My partner and I have been on several cruises before, mostly Princess. We wanted to try Cunard, so decided 12 nights for a winter sun break in the Canaries would fit the bill. We chose a balcony cabin in the standard Brittania class. Embarkation: the fastest we’ve ever got on board! From dropping off the car to stepping on board it took 17 minutes. Lovely check in staff and a nice smooth process. First Impression: Queen Elizabeth is gorgeous to look at. The Grand Lobby area is beautiful, with plenty of seating areas and plush carpets. The artwork suits the style and there is a calm and relaxed atmosphere on board. This ship is very quiet during the day, with more guests coming out in the evening. Always lots of space to sit down and relax. Cabin: balcony cabin on deck 8 (the highest deck for accommodation), towards the back of the ship. The cabin was pretty much the same as any other, however we were greeted with some sparkling wine, which was a nice touch. Lots of space to move around and a comfy bed. There was also a sofa, desk and wardrobe. The wardrobe had lots of hanging space, but less room to put things like undies and other folded items. The bathroom was standard sized, with a shower. Other reviews say the shower is small, but it was no different to other ships. Lovely toiletries included! Dining: we selected the early sitting in the Brittania restaurant for dinner and were placed on a table of 6. The food was beyond our expectations in both the main restaurant and the buffet. Every meal at dinner was fabulous, with plenty of choice. The waiters would chat and were always friendly, something we haven’t seen on all cruises. We ate breakfast in the buffet each day as the food was so good. We found the buffet was quiet early in the morning, getting very busy between 9 and 10am. The additional restaurants of Verandah, now a steak house, and the various alternative dining choices were excellent and worth the money. Entertainment: this cruise was definitely aimed st the over 50s, with entertainment certainly more geared towards older people. Ballroom dancing was on every night, and the theatre featured acts such as opera, piano and other singers. There was a comedian on one night who was great. On the whole, the entertainment was the weakest part of this cruise. The cruise director, Chris was boring as hell. Every day, the activity schedule was virtually the same as the previous day, with most evening activities centred around listening to music and ballroom dancing. Overall, we loved this cruise but there were definitely areas for improvement. The drinks are very expensive on board, with most alcoholic drinks costing upwards of $10. We bought a soft drinks package each, which was good value for our needs. We found that the crew were much nicer on this ship, with pretty much all crew greeting passengers around the ship. The onboard shops had a weird, unfriendly vibe. We strolled round the clothes shop, and the assistant stalked behind us constantly, making us feel unwelcome. All the shop staff were overly cautious of people looking at or touching their stock. We would definitely book with Cunard again, as the positives were so massively outweighing any negatives! Whilst this was a short cruise to Belgium I do wonder if Cunard are even bothered about missed opportunities with "new to the brand" cruisers. We are 'suite' cruisers 2-3 times a year and in our 40's, surely a demographic the company might be keen to impress for our future cruise dollars? As Queens Grill guests we were allowed to the front of the line but very little else to impress or separate the significant amount of money the short break cost. The embarkation was easy but again a very lackluster nod of a few heads as we boarded, nobody directing any joiners or nobody/nothing with a genuine welcome. The stateroom was beautifully presented, well equipped and meticulously maintained. The 'butler' team were nearby and thankfully gave us a genuine welcome that we've come to expect. The ship was well presented, immaculate and beautiful to explore. She has just returned from a refresh/refit with new carpets and new fixtures and fittings. The food & service I n the Q Grill was excellent and it was wonderful to see quite how much effort everybody made with their dress in the evenings. The tables for 2 were VERY close together. Thankfully we are a sociable couple happy to chat, but if you wanted private conversation or to be left alone you would have struggled. The Entertainment Director was no where to be seen, nor his/her team. Heard or seen no where. With an opportunity to impress they failed miserably. A lame 60's wedding/tribute band on the main theatre for the 1st night? Awful. Surely this is a great opportunity to really showcase Cunard at its best?! Thankfully the second night the cast were able to impress with a new production show which showcased a beautiful theatre, a pleasant story and a talented young cast working very hard. I can only hope that a longer cruise might trigger a better more comprehensive welcome, entertainment selection and genuine appreciation of our custom? Sadly Cunard won't see us return any time soon. A shame as we wanted to enjoy a lot more. We've been back for 2 days and still no post-cruise survey to complete, do they even care? Clearly not. Shop wisely people! Read Less

Just a little history ,this was our 41st Cruise and our 3 rd on The QM2 , we've cruised all the major Cruise lines ,from inside cabins to Owners suites ,So we pretty much know what to expect . We choose this cruise because it seemed like a good value and according to all the printed material we viewed online ,they were staying to 10 PM on 2 of our favorite Islands , St Maarten and Barbados . [ see attached pics] At the time In May when we decided to book on Cunard we already had a Cruise booked at the same time [RCCL Anthem] so we had to pay 200.00 to re-book the RCCL cruise to a later date and booked on the QM2 . All went fairly smooth as we live on long Island ,and had car service to the Pier . Embarkation was a little slow ,But we were on the ship within one hour . The ship itself is a very elegant, But showing wear in both the staterooms and common area's ,Like in many places there are "soft spots " in the floor ,where you step down and get the feeling that the Carpet is all thats supporting you ,some were actually marked with cones . The Good Here's some of the good, Nice Gym ,no problem with crowding ,excellent Library , The Kings Court was OK for breakfast ,good omelets, breads etc. Stateroom was adequate ,by no means spacious ,with enough storage for a 13 day cruise . My wife seemed to enjoy the Puzzles that were available on deck 2 forward ,she and a group of people she met onboard spent hours on these 1000 piece puzzles, [ I have no interest in this] My sea days started with a visit to the gym , which was never really crowded, I guess because a good portion of the passengers were in there 70 and 80s , then head up to the Buffet for breakfast , Had my omelet chef trained how I like my omelet by the second day , He was good as I'm picky about any oil in my omelet, I spent at lease 2 hours a day in the casino at the black jack table ,the first night one of my table mates hit it big ,had 5.00 chip on the Lucky Ladies , he was dealt 2 queen of hearts and the dealer had black-jack payoff ,I believe he walked away with 6,250.00 nice on a 5.00 bet , first time I ever saw that in my 10 years of playing blackjack The Bad After a few visits to, the Kings Court for lunch which was always crowded, the lunch selection were only OK limited sandwiches, Sushi was available on certain days and was fresh . Tried dinner [to avoid formal nights] a couple of times and it was not good , seems like they put the better quality cuts out first , but if you show up at 7.30-8.00 it's gone and what was left was either over cooked or Luke warm at best , I decided to rename the Kings Court the Canine Court ,as most of the food I tried was only suitable for a Canine , Instead of thinking what can I choose today ,it turned into what can I possibly stand to try today , most choices were either cold or overcooked . We expected the Britannia Restaurant to be much better ,but we soon found out that it's not much better than the Buffet, although the service was good the waiters tried there best to satisfy us ,but you can't blame the waiter if the steak is tough or the fist is cooked to death , . . Our last QM2 cruise was in 2010 and it was excellent ,overall both service and food has declined considerably since 2010 Our room Horrible pillows , use a Duvet instead of a top sheet , How to cook in the Caribbean, this might be OK for an Alaska Cruise ,but not for the Caribbean .Even with the room temp all the way cold its still way to hot . No interactive TV system ,But did have a nice flat screen TV Overall it appears Cunard is trying to Cut Costs and relying on its past reputation ,to target 1st time cruisers ,that don't have any history to compare more modern newer ships . The Deceptive On about the 3rd sea day we went to the Pursers office to check times in Port as they claimed to have changed the Itinerary , This is when we found out that they were not staying to 10.00 pm in either St Maarten or Barbados , we were told that they never stay past 5.30 and that our travel agent had printed the wrong times . Very Unhappy ,we talked to about 6 other couples that had viewed the same info from different travel agency's, one couple offered to let us make copy's of the Itinerary they had with them ,we brought that to the pursers office ,but they claimed it didn't have enough info . the next day were in St Thomas ,we called out travel agent and had them email a copy of the Itinerary to the ship. Sure enough St Maarten and Barbados were listed as staying to 10.00 PM . They claimed they had to contact Corporate office , a few days later we were contacted by the person in charge of the Pursers claiming that even though we proved them wrong they had the option of changing ports and times at there digression. I kind of expected this ,but they offered to write a letter stating that the itinerary was changed and we might get some compensation from our trip insurance . Right Good luck with that . I feel like we got scammed , these are tricks that you might expect from a used car dealer ,not a claimed 5 star cruise line . We paid for 10 extra hrs as advertised [ bait] and than got zero with no compensation [switch] I would have been satisfied for the 200.00 it cost us to change cruises . I Can't recommend this cruise or ship when they pull stunts like this ,avoid them, even if this was listed by mistake ,they should have offered a retraction ,before we made the final payment ,Not while we had started out cruise. We won't set foot on this ship ever again . Read Less

There is ONLY 1 Oceanliner in the world like it,and its not to be confused with a cruise ship. Every day was an Event and it wasnt the locations or destinations that made the cruise special it was the the cruise it self, even the crew loved sea days . Its smooth even in the Atlantic, there is a sense of occasion and dining at the princess grill was nothing short of exceptional and with a cellar of over 400,000 bottles on board the choices are plentiful and and fruitful.Every dinner was a dinner party nobody could wait to talk about the day and enjoy the evening .The rooms are spacious the staff is exceptional. I was so impressed that i booked another cruise Now before you think this is a retired persons ship, you are almost correct most have retired in there 40s or semi retired. I have travelled on other lines however if you like a more serene cruise with a sense of occasion with out screaming children this is it .sailing out of New York Harbour has history and probably the most iconic entry/ departure port in the world. The rooms are great , I have say they are better insulated than other liners so you dont hear almost anyone, the downside of this insulation is internet, it is best used in public areas or leave the door ajar. I personally can't wait for the next one, for me and probably more 80% of the passengers on board the only question is "when can we do this again.?" Read Less
