We chose this Cruise because of the wide variety of islands we were visiting. This Cruise was an older crowd not very Lively so I think bedtime was roughly around 9 p.m. . All the specialty restaurants were very good and the food was excellent service was great but when it came to the main restaurants the seven seas and the Four Seasons ran the same menu every night. With four or five specials every night and they both ran the same specials on the same night. Entertainment was non-existent we went to two shows and that this was the type of ship that did not have first class entertainment. We chose the unlimited beverage package which was a great advantage for us, we got our money's worth. We did not do any excursions through the ship as we found they were way over priced you can walk off the ship and find a tour right on the pier for half the price. We found that tipping a few extra dollars here and there for the waiters waitresses and bartenders helped out immensely as the few dollars they charge for gratuities doesn't seem to be enough. I prefer to leave my own gratuity as I feel the people that work for it are the ones that deserve it. And on the final note it was a very good Cruise the staff is very attentive the ports were great they just need to make some adjustments with the culinary department and the entertainment Read Less

We selected this cruise because it went to both Cuba and Panama Canal. Overall we enjoyed the sailing and some of the ports, but the cruise line, the staff, the ship and meal service were all disappointing. After booking, the flood of emails to upgrade, promote, and generally aggravate were endless. The constant gotcha extras which ran up the total cruise cost several thousand dollars a big surprise. The ship was not maintained that well. its older, and supposedly renovated recently seemed ragged in a lot of areas. The rooms where smaller than we have experienced on other cruise line ships. The PA system was lousy so you could not hear most of the announcements. Much of the crew seemed to not know much about the ship. We asked quesitons, they would tell you the wrong answer or have to ask someone else. Many of the crew were not friendly at all, uncharacteristic of mosh ships we have been on. Even the Cruise Director, who made all the anouncements had such broken English, he could hardly be understood. Food service: While there was a lot of food, like most ships, the dinning room service was very slow. Some meals where good and some where "bad". Most of the menu stayed the same day-to-day - boring. Most meals seemed like they where prepared in advance, rather than plated for your order. The buffet food was also generally dissappointing, Much of the hot food was cold or dried out from sitting to long. They used powered eggs at the omelet bar. And much more! Lots of other small disappointments, to numerous to list here!!! Read Less

We recently returned from a 10 day cruise on the Norwegian Sun and were quite pleased. We had a mid-ship balcony stateroom, and it was convenient to move about the ship. The buffets served plentiful food, and we had no complaints. We ate breakfast at the buffets and usually ate lunch and dinner in the Seven Seas (main) dining room. If you like to share a larger table with several folks, the Four Seasons (main) dining room is available. We preferred 2-person tables, and the Seven Seas always had several available. At every meal, one of the ship's officers checked in on us to make sure the meal was to our liking. We ate at specialty restaurants 4 evenings, because they were part of our sailing package. We ate the Le Bistro, La Cucina, Cagneys, and Moderno. All were good. We took advantage of the mid-cruise laundry special. That took care of all our laundry needs. From reading other people's reviews on this website, I was concerned the ship would offer no televised football games, here in December. The ship does have a contract with the NFL and showed Sunday night, Monday night, and Thursday night games. I don't know if they showed any Sunday afternoon games, since we were on shore excursions, then. Norwegian Cruise Lines does not appear to have a contract to show college football games. The room steward, Lorry, was excellent. In fact, all the ship's crew were courteous and helpful. We took advantage of shore excursions in each port, except Georgetown, Grand Caymans. We simply walked and shopped there. The most memorable excursion was in Cuba. We had time to see Havana and talk to several people there. Embarkation was slower than I expected. We had completed all our paperwork online before arriving at the ship. It took about an hour. Debarkation was the fastest of any of the 5 cruise lines we've used in the past--excellent organization. We chose this cruise for the itinerary and the price. The last time we took a Norwegian cruise was 4 years ago and the food was much better. Breakfast was very good. However lunch was not-all the hot dishes looked like warmed up dog food. We usually had salad and the Asian dish or went to the back for hot dogs or hamburgers. The appetizers at dinner in the main dining room -includes the soups and salads-were good. The main courses were about what you would get at a mid-price chain restaurant. Desserts were always good. No duck, lamb, or lobster in main dining room. No lobster in any dining room. The specialty restaurants were very good and worth the extra cost. We could see cost cutting measures in all sorts of ways. Sometimes just little things like not giving out beach carryalls which must cost all of 10 cents but are good to have, no chocolate on the pillow, beach towels had to be signed out and if you lost one there was a $25 charge. There was no captain's party where you get 1 or 2 free drinks. We didn't miss it because we had the drink package. There were only two production shows on a 15 day cruise and they had no scenery-just the lights on the curtains changing color. Most 10 day cruises have 3 big shows. The comic and male singer who each performed 2 nights were excellent. We only took 2 excursions from the ship. We find on all ships that their tours are way over priced. We would get off the ship and get a tour from a local with a van for half or a third of the ship tour price. Only because we had a tour credit did we take the two. Even with the lack of food quality we would go again if the price was good. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Havana stop as well as the time of year and other ports. This was our third time on the Sun and it did not disappoint. The recent updates have the ship looking really good. Everything about this cruise was terrific, especially the staff who were friendly and engaging. We managed to find our favorite bartender, Stan, and we enjoyed his drinks, conversation and smile. We were in a Suite and our Concierge was Yahira and we have had her on previous cruises and she is terrific. We found the food to be very good in both the main dining rooms as well as the specialty restaurants. The buffet was good and is a typical buffet. The service throughout the ship was excellent and the crew really works to make you enjoy the cruise. In Havana we took a horse drawn carriage and walking tour and I would suggest this is an excellent way to experience Havana. This was a highlight of the trip. Another great tour was on St. Kitts where we took a train tour complete with pina coladas-terrific. The St Lucia catamaran trip was really nice, as well. The entertainment was good, not great, but we enjoyed it. Read Less

Cruise Locations. Have never cruised with Norwegian and thought we should try. We had heard it was a good line to cruise with a Relaxed atmosphere. All though we had to travel from west to east it was something we thought worthy of doing. We arrived in MIAMI a day early so as to avoid any potential issues due to possible flight delays. Did visit some of the local venues. The embarkacation was tedious and at time frustrating. Our cabin was adequate and the cabin steward was very helpful and courteous. Our dining was an experience. The buffet was alright however very congested in areas such as entry where coffee is available The casual dining was a nice touch no neeed for jacket and tie Service was adaqute. Some entrees were inadequate ie shrimp cut in half and as well the scallops. In the buffet area the lack of banana was concerning The thanksgiving dinner was terrible and bordered on unbeatable. Salty rolled turkey - wow The buffet area offered real turkey, dressing and gravy which we were not aware of until the following day. Overall not terribly impressed Read Less

A couple who are friends and whom had cruised Norwegian before planned this one. Itinerary was pretty good, however the activities on board left a lot to be desired. There was no announcement of the very scarce activities of entertainment. Singers sounded like amateurs in a contest or a cheap bar. Cruise director was hardly around and did not schedule fun activities as we are used to seeing in other cruises we've been on and we witnessed her being rude to a passenger unjustifiably. Not surprisingly she disappeared in the middle of the cruise without anyone knowing the reason. Perhaps she was fired. I would not be surprised. The few activities in schedule which were posted on the daily paper were not described with enough detail for anyone to figure out what they were about. Everything closed at 12 midnight. So boring. The shows were no biggie and frankly not of the category we expected from such highly graded cruise ship company. No formal night, or at least it wasn't announced. That was disappointing too. The food was just average. No lobster night!!. Bummer. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we had a desire to visit Cuba along with this amazing itinerary of 11 ports in 15 days. The Free at Sea was a welcome perk that we took advantage of the Ultimate Drink Package and Specialty Dinning. In addition we received the distinctive voyage perk but only used the 250 minutes of free WiFi. From past experience we prefer cruises of at least 10 days as there will be more of an older generation of cruisers and less children and that is exactly the mix on this one. We were on the Sun last year at this time just before it was upgraded so we were looking forward to discovering all the upgrades. We were pleased with the new theater seating, buffet makeover, photo gallery, Bliss lounge and the freshening up of the pool deck. It was convenient to have USB chargers in the bed side lights, a large flat screen TV, bedding accents such as throw pillows and a bed runner along with new carpet. The overall appearance of the Sun reveals that there are many more good years of service to offer. There appeared to be less choices on the menu in the main dinning room however there was always something appealing to choose. We had three evenings of Cagney's Steak House which never disappoint and one evening at La Cucina Italian which we would most likely not return to. It was mentioned often to be sure to make reservations in the main dinning room for Thanksgiving Dinner, which we did. Unfortunately it was a disappointment as the service was slow and the turkey entree was compressed turkey roll, no option of mashed potatoes and gravy, we did not finish our meal and went to the buffet and they were serving a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with carved turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and all the trimmings. The entertainment at poolside was terrible as there were only two bands featured, one only played reggae with a singer off key and bad harmonies the other was an instrumental band that featured a steel drum, both played excessively loud. I don't mind hearing some reggae and steel drum music provided it is mixed with other music from the average generation which on this cruise would be 60+ years. Everyone's attempt to have these bands turn down the volume and complaints to the cruise director did absolutely nothing. It was frustrating to be in the Caribbean relaxing on the sun decks or by the pool and being tortured by the awful choice of entertainment by the cruise director. There was one afternoon when a duo played at poolside all the music we liked at a decent volume, people were applauding and some were even dancing, sadly it was just that one day. There was also a jazz quartet in a lounge near the main dinning room however we did not partake in their show. The other entertainment options are "Deal or No Deal", Not so Newlywed, Mr. sexy legs, Miss Norwegian Sun which was entertaining and fun. We do not gamble and therefore did not play at the casino. The entertainment in the theater was the same as the cruise last year. Same shows, same comedians and magicians doing the same routine so we didn't spend many evenings there. Shopping on board was in line with the duty free at the ports with the convenience of getting to know the sales crew gaining their trust to buy with confidence. The ports were amazing and although we did not take any excursions from the ship as we had been to most the islands before, we chose to interact with the culture near the pier. Disembarkation was smooth and easy as we are not in a hurry to leave so we take the last color of tags. Basically we just walked off the ship without any obstacles. Staying an extra night in the debarkation city makes for easy travel the next day as well as a less stressful day leaving the ship. This is our 6th cruise with NCL and our 19th overall, it is difficult to say if we will remain loyal to NCL or try an alternative cruise line as they have dropped the ball in overall service, entertainment and not providing the amenities for the age group they are catering to. Went with a group of friends and enjoyed the cruise. A lot of stops, probably too many but most were interesting. As a senior citizen it was a little tough keeping up with all the activity. The food was average and I was a little disappointed in it but I didn't go hungry and the service and staff were excellent. Went a couple days with a blower in my room because of a water leak in the cabin, that was irritating to say the least. Then on the last three days the toilets in my cabin (and others) worked intermittently necessitating finding a public one somewhere. This was my first with Norwegian cruise lines and my 3rd overall. The entertainment was good and I enjoyed the short programs. I felt that on a 15 day cruise the shore excursions were too expensive for that number of days and started doing excursions from the pier. Loved the ports and would like to return for longer stays. After the experience with the cabin issues I'm not sure if I want to go on this cruise line again. Read Less

We had a $250.00 cruise credit from a previous cruise, so we explored destinations we had not visited before. We took a 15 night cruise to Key West, Cuba, where we had a six hour excursion. In Aruba we went to the Aloe Factory, and the highest point on the island where we climbed the rocks and got a beautiful view of the island. In Curacao,we went to the liquor factory and toured the island. In Bonaire we went to the salt factory and saw how sea salt is extracted. We also go to see the old slave huts. We saw wild goats and donkeys as well as Flamimgos and learned about the changing of their color from gray to pink. We had previously visited St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, and Puerto Rico so we just did our own exploring. In Barbados we visited the Halos caves. Very interesting. It was wonderful! I have food allergies and thankfully, the Sious Chefs and Waite Staff made sure I was taken care of. No problems at all and the food arrived hot and tasteful. There were many activities during the day for those who did not wish to venture out and many music venues in the evenings and great shows - we had singers, dancers and comedians. Everyone was friendly and courteous. We would like to take another cruise on this particular ship. Read Less
