I'm a loyal RCCL cruiser (Diamond member) and frankly, I much prefer the Voyager class ships versus the huge Oasis class ships, primarily because I love the ability to walk outside and listen to the waves from Deck 4. However, this cruise was just barely average. Entertanment was virtually non-existent (for an 8 day cruise) and what they did have wasn't really worth watching. Food was okay (primarily MDR), but service was rushed (for no reason) and non-attentitve. Cabin Steward was great. Cabin itself was as expected, ship was clean, but the overall service and food was just adequate. I will continue to sail with RCCL, I prefer them over NCL, and will continue to look for Voyager class ships, but will lower my hopes and expectations. Pros: Cabin Steward (from China) really did a great job and wasn't pushy and begging for tips. Ship was clean and in well working order despite her age. Food was okay, nothing special. Cons: Service in the MDR was rushed beyond belief and non-attentive. Entertainment was virtually non-existent and a real let down. Am sailing on this same ship in February for their 6 day cruise, let's see if that is any different. Read Less

We did a b2b on Adventure to escape the cold and to spend time with friends. Our cabin steward was Sherwin and he was the absolute best we’ve ever experienced! Kind, always smiling and incredibly efficient. Superb does not come close to describing Sherwin. I have deadly allergies to seafood, mushrooms and tarragon. I emailed the ship prior to the cruises with the information and requested a table for two to avoid accidentally being served someone else’s food along with trying to avoid inconveniencing other cruisers with needing to preorder my food each night. Royal has become more and more slack on some ships the last couple of years. The head waiter is supposed to manage allergies. On some ships I had to have the head waiter handle my food at lunch time as well. Not by my request, it was policy on certain ships. Our first week I asked the waiter to please find our head waiter and explained why. After speaking with the head waiter she tried to pass me back to the waiter telling me she would be fine. I insisted on the headwaiter doing my orders. I have been on ships where serious mistakes have been made with my food by waiters who did not take the allergies seriously. Fortunately I survived! The head waiter was pretty good until the night prior to the 2nd formal night when she told me lobster would be served. She suggested we dine in the cabin. I said no I would like to be in the dining room and if it was too much for me we would leave. I asked her to just make sure our dinners came out quickly like she had done the other nights and hopefully I would be fine. We barely saw her formal night. The waiter came by and I asked if she could make sure we had more vegetables with dinner. It was almost an hour after our appetizers that we received our entree and no vegetables, no head waiter. We did not return to the dining room that week. Our second leg we had the same table, new waiter. Again I requested a visit from the head waiter due to deadly allergies. The head waiter took my order and served us. All seemed to be going well till the waiter came by, obviously unamused by my request to see the head waiter. He started laughing about me having so many allergies. HE LAUGHED at me! I was upset, my husband was LIVID! We spoke with the head waiter and naturally he apologized. He called over the dining room manager. Naturally he apologized as well. Really??? We have been on about 35 cruises and had never experienced anything so uncalled for and rude. We reported it to guest services. The Assistant Maître D and Restaurant Operations Manager took us to another dining room and apologized profusely. In our estimation this could be solved with a chat with the waiter, requesting that HE apologize and provide him with some much needed training. Their solution was to call me the next day at 5:30 pm to say we were being moved to a private table in the dining room on deck 3. We would be escorted to our table, the head waiter would take my order and they would introduce me to the chef. I know they were trying to solve the problem but what they did punished us. We lost our excellent table, had to wade through a huge crowd to get into the dining room and the so called private table was the one we typically sat at for breakfast by a window. Nice during the daylight but very dark at night. This dining room was loud and not at all pleasant like deck 5 where we had been. The head waiter was very nice and so was the chef. The dining room was the issue. We did not return to the dining room. We ate in port, the WJ or one night in Johnny Rockets. This episode with dining room issues due to my allergies was not an isolated incident. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back! Disembarkation was horrible on our turnaround day as well. It was handled badly at the port, complete chaos with many many annoyed people trying to get off the ship to get home ALL at the same time! We got off as quickly as we could the day we went home because we needed to get on an earlier flight due to weather at our home airport. We grabbed our luggage where they weren’t finished lining up bags much to the shagrin of staff at the port. A porter was understanding and helped. We travel a lot. We have cruised less and less with Royal the past few years since in our estimation Royal Caribbean service and food has deteriorated dramatically and there is no consistency between most ships. We travel for fun and enjoyment. I don’t need to be fighting for my ability to eat safely. We are D+. Friends suggested that we try Celebrity. Their food handlers are certified in something called DineAware. We’re booked on a b2b in the new year. Hopefully they are as good on-board as their Vacation Planners were on the phone. Read Less

Elvis Tribute Artist cruise; having sailed on many RCCL ships, I found Adventure to have positives (smaller size easier to get around) and negatives (RCCL has tried to squeeze all of the amenities of Oasis class ships into this smaller one making for some tight spaces). Food was OK but choices very limited. Complimentary was either the main dining room with service that was way over the top ingratiating or the Windjammer buffet. There is also a Cafe in the Promenade that is small and crowded with pick-up items. That main dining room service---our waitstaff hovered over us constantly asking if the food - and "most especially" the service were excellent. About halfway through our meal, we just wanted to tell them to go away but held back knowing the mean well and in their culture they are being gracious. Only ate in there one time. Windjammer food was fine and if not, option to go back for something better. Ate in Giovanni's - one of the fee restaurants and did not think it worth the $35 each price tag: ate in a la carte Izumi and would never do that again - again not worth the money --- extraordinarily limited menu and food just OK. Good daytime place to relax and read is the Blue Moon lounge on Deck 14. Gripe---paying for a junior suite did not give us privileges to the "Suite Lounge" - always has on Oasis class ships but not this one. Cabin: nice and spacious and comfortable. Our cabin attendant was fine although having pre-paid tips and having asked nothing of him over and above his ordinary duties, found the TIP, TIP HOORAY envelope left in our room on the last night annoying. Yes, we caved and gave him an extra tip. That's all one does on these ships - everything wants and "additional" tip which should only be added for extraordinary service. Hard to comment on entertainment as we were enveloped in the shows included in our private group; we did think, though, that there seemed to be limited entertainment and thought we would have been looking for something do at night if not for our group events. Best port of call was Grand Cayman but given that it was a tender situation with a very short day, we elected not to get off the ship. Costa Maya and Cozumel are two places no one really needs to ever go. Read Less

I talked a very hesitant friend and her husband into trying a cruise and decided my wife and I should go along. Glad we did. I should first describe my idea of a great cruise...really relaxed. Stayed at the Fortuna hotel pre cruise. Really neat little boutique hotel near the beach. Boarding was effortless. There was no line for Diamond and a short line for general boarding. On board in 10 minutes and a drink in hand. Love the drink package. Had a balcony cabin 7534 with plenty of room and quite comfortable for me. Explored the ship. Had not been on Adventure (although have also been on Navigator and Explorer). Love the ship and the peekaboo bridge. Pool bar was my favorite and Schooner was a close second. All on board meals in the Windjammer (don't like wearing long sleeve pants). No complaints about the food. There was a minor issue when the crew served dessert and plugged the entrance. Cabin service was attentive and no complaints. Requested a daily ice bucket and it was delivered. Labadee was Labadee. The buffet was fine and typical. Already paid drinks are great. Avoided the locals. San Juan is one of my favorite places. The forts weren't open for my friends and wife to see but we had a great hike along the old wall and 2 great meals in town. We were there from 1300-2100. Sint Maarten was up next. We went out to the airport by private cab. It was much more crowded than the last time we were there (likely would find other things to do next time) but it was fun for the first time friends. We stopped for a bit in town after the airport and had a good time strolling the boardwalk. Last port was St. Kitts. My wife and friends did a dolphin excursion while I wandered around the port and town. When they got back we hiked about 10 miles around town. Great fun. Finished with 2 great sea days. The production shows were ho hum. Game shows were fun. We're not late nights so didn't catch much after 2200 except Love and Marriage. Jogging track is a bit short. I went by time and no idea how many laps. The info says 8 laps to a mile (I showed closer to 9). All in all another great cruise on Royal and will definitely return. Stayed at Red Carpet Inn post cruise. Comfortable, ok accommodations. Read Less

This was our second NYE cruise and third time on the Adventure. We appreciated the upgrades that were added in the last dry dock. Embarking and debarking were easy, probably the best we have ever experienced at Port Everglades. We had a walkoff with the Suite Concierge and it took 12 minutes total. Our grand suite (1578) on deck 10 was lovely and very convenient to the elevators. Very large with plenty of storage, a mini fridge, wetbar, a nice bathroom and balcony. The balcony had a padded lounger, a table and two chairs. It is completely covered, and was quite pleasant most of the time. We were a little concerned the cabin might be noisy as we were located under the pool deck, but that was only an issue on NYE when we tried to turn in around 12:30. Once the deck party ended, all was quiet again. We had the Ultimate Dining Package and enjoyed one dinner at Chops, one at Izumi and four at Giovanni’s Table. Chops and Izumi are both on the Royal Promenade and were a little too noisy for us. Giovanni’s Table is located next to the Windjammer with a beautiful ocean view. We got great service from Amar and Arvind at GT. Christopher was the Suite Concierge and did a great job. He made our dinner reservations pre-cruise, though we changed several onboard. He also hosted a suite party at Giovanni’s Table for lunch one sea day. The party was well attended with many officers, including the Captain and Hotel Director. Nearly every day we received goodies in our suite, including gifts from the Captain, the Hotel Director, Christopher and the casino. We had requested a beach towel as our Diamond Plus gift, but housekeeping called and said they were out. So they substituted a tote, which came in handy as we were packing. Service was good throughout the cruise. Our cabin steward, Renato, was very good and kept the cabin in great shape. Mercedes was the cruise director, and did a fine job. Entertainment was good. We really enjoyed the production shows, the comedian and the staff talent show, Adventure’s Got Talent. The outdoor movies were fun, including Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again and Oceans Eight. We had colds all week so we stayed on the ship in Grand Cayman. In Costa Maya, we took a taxi to the town and enjoyed a great walk. At Cozumel, we shopped at the port and returned to the ship early. Even though we were not feeling the best, we had a great time and will gladly sail on the Adventure again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted to party over New Year's and we did. Easy getting on the ship with an early shuttle and as promised room was open right at 1 o'clock. The Adventure is an older ship and showing her age even though many on board said she had been recently renovated. Casino was small, paint and hardware needed attention and many areas were just not serviced in a timely manner especially public restrooms. Room attendants were top notch for us and for everyone we chatted with but they battled with hardware falling off and bath areas that just were not cleanable. Shows were average with the exception of the second production show and a fabulous hypnotist who had everyone laughing out loud. Can not comment on ports or excursion since we had done the Caymans many times including spending a week at Christmas one year and had also visited the Mexican ports at a safer time. There was just the two of us and we enjoyed pool days and party nights. Bartenders are good at their jobs and pool attendants were very attentive. Food was only average or below average if you cruise on any of the upscale lines. Would I go again? Probably would if I needed a party and a short cruise but not willing to travel from Kentucky for a short cruise on this ship. This time fit perfectly because we were able to follow it with two weeks in a condo at Pompano. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate New Years with friends. Having cruised since 1995 this is our first RCL cruise. Never have I heard one negative thing about RCL from friends who only sail RCL. I was well aware this 6 day cruise was on an older ship, but never did I expect the ship to show her age the way this one did. Because of the jacked up price for the New Years cruise, we took an inside cabin, something we haven't done in years. Carpets were worn, in the main areas, and stateroom. The couch was badly stained, the bathroom showed signs of rust and I have never had a bathroom as small as this one. The shower? Small is too large a word to describe it. The bed was about 2 inches from the couch on one side and table on the other. Getting out of bed in the dark was interesting to say the least. We went to put our wine in the refrigerator and found pooled water with mold growing in it. So much for the room. I do want to say boarding was a pleasure. Disembarkation was a nightmare cattle call, with everyone being ushered off the ship at one time, despite a so called schedule. Food ... room service was nicely done. The Windjammer buffet was mediocre, with the same selection daily of so so food. If you like your coffee strong , and I mean strong, this is for you. Breakfast in the dining room was slow unless you chose the buffet they offered there as well. I ordered my eggs over easy and they came out with runny whites. The staff are all eager to please at every turn. Dinner in the dining room some nights seemed rushed. We were told by our travel agent because we were a party of 7, to see the reservation staff upon boarding and request our dinner time, so we wouldn't have to wait for an available table with any time dining. We were given a time prior to 6 pm, which was too early. Otherwise we had to wait until 8:30. We felt as the dinner wound down and desert came, we were being rushed out . Put down your fork and the dish disappeared. Of course, as expected on a holiday sailing, at sea days it was impossible to find a lounge at the pool. The entertainment was so so. The Latin band was excellent, as was the band in the theater. We loved the ice skating show!! The Lyric Theater shows were not so good. Some of the staff we spoke to agreed the ship needed to be updated. Some even apologetic. All in all, when I pay top dollar I expect something. I expected something special because it is RCL. Having been to most ports before many times over, I have to say we loved the trip to Mayan ruins we took in Costa Maya. I would have enjoyed the opportunity to walk outside the port area, but we were not in port all day. We had a fun private tour guide in Cozumel and we loved how he just let us do our thing. We went to a beach north of town, which was lovely and we hit the Ticquila factory of course! We wandered the town and took some fun, surprising turns to end our day of fun. All in all, the success of the trip was all due to great off ship trips, great friends and abiliity to laugh at it all. I would not go back on this ship but I may want to try a newer RCL. Read Less

We have been cruising with Royal since 2002 - have done 9 cruises and 7 were with RCCL.and second time on Adventure We have never been so disappointed on how much royal has gone down since our last time on the Adventure. We did Alaska in 2013 on Radiance (love Alaska and the Radiance). Done get me wrong some parts of the cruise were fabulous (staff especially), but overall it seems RCCL is more into making money than worrying about their overall performance. Stayed two days before at Pier 66 and was beautiful. The ship though a real disappointment. Royal used to pride themselves with the cleanliness of their ships and the overall look. I remember when every port they would be washing the windows and cleaning everywhere. Not anymore. The insides windows in the windjammer looked like they hadnt been cleaned in a long time. Also on the pool deck. One port the staff hosed down the outside windows with water, then soap, then rinsed them, but never squigeed them so the water just ran the windows and made them look worse. Our balcony glass on the outside looked like they had never been cleaned either and the railing was pealing and if you looked at the underside all you saw was rust. We had a notice half way thru the cruise to make sure the balcony doors were closed as they were going to clean them. Hubby was in the room at the time and all they did was hose them. When we went out on the balcony there was white paint chips all over the glass, our chairs and the floor. I found that even though this was a Xmas cruise there wasnt a lot of activies offered for the passengers that did not have a price tag attached. Sea days included in this. I felt sorry for the staff on the pool deck as not as much staff and they were constantly running to keep up with drink orders. Our attendant was great and even though he took up to twenty orders and once and your sometimes had to wait up to 45 minutes to get your drink (due to lack of staff) he never got your order wrong. RCCL put a notice in the daily that passengers would be able to check in on line the day before their flights. I thought great, however, when I called to ask where to go to do this they told me I would have to pay $10 for an hour of internet to do this. We unplug when we are on holidays so do not have electronics with us, but to pay for an hour of service when it would take not even five minutes to check in was ridiculous. Luckily we met a lot of people who volunteered to let us use their devices to check in. Also RCCL forgot to mention that when checking in to remember to do so on Florida time. We were in the middle of the caribbean who remembers what time zone you are in. When we went to check in of course we couldnt and went to guest services for help. Even the staff couldnt explain why we couldnt until one gentleman asked his supervisor and they finally figured out the time change part. RCCL has really gone down hill on customer service and their pride in their ships. We dont know if we will return. We have already booked a 20 days cruise in Nov but on princess. The first night I couldnt sleep as the bed was like sleeping on a sheep of plywood. Ask the room attendant for the egg crate foam (which they dont have anymore) but he put 4 foam pads on the bed to make it more comfortable. When I asked him about it he told me that the beds were changed when they did the refurbishment and he had had nothing but complaints ever since about the quality of the bed. Our room attendant was fabulous, keep us supplied with ice as I had hurt my back the first day and needed ice for it. Also hubby got sunstroke half way thru and of course ended up sick. Ray (our attendant) constantly asked about him and as hubby was freezing (side effect of sunstroke) got him extra blankets. We usually do the buffet as we never know when we are hungry, but the buffet food never changed. Every day they supposedly had a different them but the food was always the same. Chicken, beef, pork, noodles and veg. We ended up a lot of times eating at the Cafe in the Promenade as the food was much better. Never thought to go to the dining room as we also dont like to wait an hour or more to eat. In all the years we have been cruising with RCCL we have never been so disappointed. It seems as if all RCCL cares about is how much money they can make (in order to pay for those new big ships) and they dont care about their guests. Also the excursion we took in St Maarten was horrible. Was not as described. On a bus with about 30 others (as expected). There was suppose to be many photo stops (had two) the rest of the time we had to take pictures as we went around the round about. Took us to a warehouse district (scary) stopped at a beat up place to sample and buy rum. No explanation on how the rum was made just stand in line sample and buy. Read Less

We were on this ship for the 8-night 2018 Christmas Cruise departing Ft. Lauderdale with stops in Nassau, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and St. Kitts. This was the second Christmas cruise for us on this ship, the last one 4 years ago out of San Juan, PR. Overall, this was our 5th cruise on RCL and our 8th cruise overall. We are an active couple in our early 50’s and were traveling with our 2 daughters and son in-law, all in their early 20’s. We checked in early (11am) and were allowed to board the ship immediately. This was very nice compared to our previous cruise on Norwegian where we had to wait in a waiting area for more than 1 hour. Luggage drop and check-in was painless, but I had also completed all the cruise documents including pictures online ahead of time. We had lunch at the Windjammer Café and then relaxed in the Blue Moon (Deck 14) until the rooms opened at 1pm. We had 2 Balcony Staterooms (8246 and 8250). One was a bit larger than the other and had a sofa bed vs. the Pullman (overhead bed) in the other. Overall the cabin was clean, the beds comfortable and plenty of space to store all our stuff, including scuba gear. The balconies on this ship are a lot more “closed in” than on newer ships, but we knew this from our previous cruise. We opted for My Time dining since the 5:30 seating was too early and the 8:30 too late for our liking. I did make 6:30 reservations for us ahead of time and we asked for a quiet table near a window at our first seating which we were given. We were very happy with this location and with our wait staff, so we then asked to have this table request in our profile for all of the following nights. The check-in person (Rene) did his best to accommodate this request and we were able to get that table all nights except one where he went out of his way to find us another quiet table by a window. The food in the dining room was good for most evenings, some were great and a few were just OK. Overall, I would rate the food a 7/10, the wait staff a 10/10. Bar service in the dining room could be a bit slow. We liked the elegance and lighting of the dining room better than those on Norwegian Escape. Our daughter and Son-in-Law had specialty dinners at Izumi and the Italian restaurant and felt that they were very special and slower paced. We did opt for the drink package which, for us, makes the shipboard experience much more relaxing (no stress about drink prices). We felt the wine/beer selection was good, but the mixed drinks were quite weak. We learned quickly that specifying the alcohol (i.e. gold Tequila, dark Rum, etc.) would improve the drink and the bar tenders were happy to comply. We also learned which bar tenders were reasonable with their pours (at Solarium bar we would sometimes see them not even fill a single shot glass of alcohol for the drink) and we would frequent those locations. It was also nice that specialty coffees were included in the package (not true for Norwegian). We attended most performances and game shows and especially enjoyed the comedians and game shows (Battel of the Sexes, The Quest). I don’t know if it was just coincidence, but the main comedian was the same as 4 years ago, but he was still great and only some of this jokes were repeats. Getting seats in the main theater was never an issue, but for the game shows in the Imperial Lounge an early arrival was critical. The guy in the piano bar (all songs by request) was great and the place was always packed. I would rate the entertainment 8/10. We are not the type to lay by the pool, but deck chairs seemed available anytime we walked through the pool area, even more so in the Solarium. We like to walk while on board and really enjoyed that one can circle the complete ship (as long as the weather is not too nasty and they close access to the bow) on deck 4. Most other ships we have been on do not have access to the bow. Some in our group got a massage and enjoyed this except the sales pitch for overpriced stuff at the end. We did not spend any time in the casino or gym. We disembarked early taking our own luggage to assure we would make our return flight. Disembarkation and customs/immigration was much quicker than expected. Overall we rarely felt that this was a Holiday cruise with the ship at capacity (of course the decorations and music were reminders). Ship size was a good compromise in having lots of activities (rock climbing, ice skating, Flowrider, etc.) and open spaces (the promenade) but not the big distances of other larger ships. We did miss the more elaborate shows available on Oasis class ships. All crew members we interacted with were friendly and professional and some really stood out in trying to make our stay as good as possible. There were no incidents that we needed to complain about. Overall I would rate this cruise a solid 8/10. Read Less

This ship was very nice. Very friendly staff and with my son in a wheelchair was very accommodating! Our waiters, Sameer and Ikoman were superb! Would cruise again anytime on this ship! The cabin was spacious and my son was able to get around fine in his wheelchair. The cabin was right off from the elevator which made it easy for us to get where we wanted to go on the ship. There were no lifts into the pool or hot tubs which was a downfall but my son is a paraplegic and was able to transfer to the ledge of the hot tub and with some assistance get himself in. He never went in the pool but I believe he could have done the same as the hot tub. The ship was very in tune to germs - sinks to wash hands before dining in the main room and hand sanitizer everywhere. The excursions were great. Captain Marvins in Grand Cayman is excellent - lifted my son right into their boat in his wheelchair! We had an excellent cruise. Read Less
