We were limited on dates that we could go on a cruise so chose the Malaysian Peninsular. Some of the ports were really disappointing, particularly Phuket. Our cabin was dated and needed refurbishing, the carpet was very worn. Typical Princess layout in the atrium. The staff and service was excellent and no complaints with the buffet food in the Horizon although many passengers did not wash their hands as they should when entering. We were around the pool every day trying to find a lounger that offered shade, it would be good if they could provide more shade. People still reserve loungers for hours even though they are requested not to. To save washing and continual re stocking of pool towels, passengers should be asked to take just one towel instead of 2-4 each. The captain of this ship and cruise should be applauded, he was a very caring and thoughtful person, went over and beyond with explanations, information apologies and as another passenger said - a true gentleman. The cruise was okay, we wouldn't do a similar itinerary again. Read Less

This was a family Christmas cruise. Our 2nd with Princess and 5th overall Cruise ( 2 Carnival and 1 Royal Caribbean) and Princess is hands down our favorite due to overall experience with service, food everything else!. Overall great cruise. Several negatives: was age of our ship - built in 2004 and showing its age. We had AC issues in our cabin but Princess compensated by giving us a generous on board credit and worked to resolve issue. Internet service was very slow which is frustrating if you pay for it. I recommended on Princess Review to make free WiFi. Also gym hours were not accommodating for port days with7 am open time. I suggested 24 hour access. Other minor negative was lack on seating during peak buffet times and suggested opening up more dining spaces at different floors for this. Service was excellent from stateroom to Dinner/Dining. Embarkation and Disemarkation was excellent and stress free. Our young kids loved the on board Discovery or kids activities! On board entertainment was also outstanding! Other cruises we have been on were cheesy. Princess is our preferred Cruise line by a long shot !! Read Less

Great ship. This was a good itinerary. Staff was fantastic.Food was good, typical of Princess. Ship is in very good condition with only minor wear. Not only did the weather cooperate but the tours were good.. Surprised it is going in for updates soon. We do not use Princess shore excursions ( in my opinion their, weakness) but find it worthwhile joining and creating groups through roll call. Entertainment talent was very good overall. Our favorite was Silk. Very little challenge with language. All of the crew understood English. Good diverse mixture of nationalities for both crew and guests. We had one glitche with a television. It was fixed in a couple of hours. Suggest starboard side for this itinerary. Warning on tours to Ho Chi Minh City, skip the Museum of War Remnants, unless hearing one side of the story of the war doesn’t bother you. Also avoid Rex Hotel for rooftop coffee, included on some tours. They charged us $5 for a bottle of water. We had a good time in the city but I would not go again. Read Less

Steakhouse ways consistently fantastic. Crew very helpful Only issues were passengers not covering their mouth when sneezing. Also packing their dishes with so much food that others had to wait for replenishment. Especially sushi and bing cherries. I recommend that this should be served by waiters Effy selling was annoying and waste of papers each day Loved having afternoon coffee Sushi restaurant not utilized. Should move steakhouse in that spot. Coach and upscale clothing is also a waste. I saw no one making any purchases Ship needs good overhaul. Windows dirty throughout ship Announcements cannot be heard clearly Art auction was a disappointment. Past customer credit can’t be used on everything. Faldo advertisement Again too many papers from art and Effy. Need to have better tv and selections of live channels and movies like on regal and royal. Photographer annoying when you are trying to get off for a port Read Less

All in all, the cruise was lovely. The ship is showing some signs of aging but I believe that it is going in for some renovations. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Our steward, Daniel, was always attentive and was great! It must be very difficult for the people who work on a ship to be away from their family for such long stretches of time but all the workers were pleasant and polite. The food was amazing and the presentation was beautiful! There were many choices and I enjoyed every meal, whether I ate in the dining rooms or at the buffet. In particular I would like to mention two servers, Anastasia and Raymond, from the Pacific Moon dining room. Their attention to detail was terrific and they were so pleasant to interact with when we were eating. I also found all of the servers in the Horizon Court buffet eager to please. Each went out of his way to accommodate any request that I had. The only comment I would make regarding the itinerary is that more time is spent in Hong Kong or Ho Chi Minh City as opposed to visiting Nha Trang. Because we had to use tenders to visit Nha Trang, there might have been a chance that we couldn’t dock since the visit was dependent on how calm the water was. As it was, I didn’t disembark the ship until noon of that day, and only had a few hours to visit the city. Having an overnight in any other city would have been more appreciated. I also feel that too much time is spent on trying to sell the products on the ship. We were constantly being bombarded with buying the jewelry on board! I would definitely take another cruise on a Princess ship! Read Less

the 20 day Japan , Asia cruise was a great concept which is why we booked. But their where a few issues that need to be looked at for it to be a success- The clearing through passport and customs at each country took a long time, and with late arrivals at some ports 1300hrs. it left little time to see places closing at 4/5 pm. - We were sold a cruise going from - 16/10 to 05/11, and Princess supplies drink packages that covered that period. Onboard we were offered packages from - Fine Arts - Postage for 1 to 5 paintings for $65, valuations - first one $35 , then $15 for any others. There was NO time limit mentioned at auction , but when we bought items at different times we where told we would have to pay another $65 postage. .I left a note about this at the desk onboard - their needs to be a CLEAR message about package time limits. This was also the case when we bought a photo package - 5 photos and memory stick for $100, half way through our cruise we were told please select your photos today, for they will be deleted tomorrow !!! Feedback from fellow passangers about some booked shore trips wasn't good, a refund was given, but it doesn't replace the trip. My wife Desley has diet needs, and the menu was limited for her. Chose cruise for itinerary and was not disappointed. I had always wanted to see the area and the cruise and pre- cruise cruisetour provided just the right opportunity. However, it was the deadest cruise I've encountered. Little music, lounges closed early and stocking of supplies was deficient. Otherwise from beginning to end the dining, stateroom service and shore excursions were of the usual high Princess standards. The ports of call were well organized sans Xiamen. Overall the staff was engaging, friendly and provided excellent service. That is except for the cruise director. I tried to talk with her on a couple of occasions, but she was not interested in talking. It seems she could use some customer satisfaction training. I have cruised with Princess over fifteen times and regretfully this cruise ranks toward, if not the bottom of the list from an over-all experience. However, because of past experience, I will not let this disappointment prevent me from sailing with Princess again. I have even booked another cruise on Princess. Read Less

Interesting ports. Ship seemed overbooked but Princess managed to pack everyone in somewhere. Shore excursions were barely organized mob scenes. Interesting places visited but the best had no crowd control (not the fault of Princess) and prevented a good experience. Buses seemed smaller than experienced on other cruise shore excursions. Many struggled to get on and off. Surprised some booked an excursion at all. I especially did not like that half day excursions included more than an hour in a shopping district. I know many want to shop for gifts but was not my primary reason for taking this trip. Would have preferred seeing additional points of interest. First night dinning in assigned dinning room was disappointing. Tried ordering a bottle of wine to share but first three wines selected from the wine list were not in stock. Finally shown a hand written list of what they did have and selected from that. Future evenings went better. Servers were great and helped us make suitable selections from what was available. No anytime dinning room option (evenings) except buffet and specialty dinning rooms (with reservations and surcharge) Fitness center adequately equipped but the room was very warm and almost like exercising in a sauna Many of the crew were awesome and saved the day. Weather after leaving Japan was mostly good in spite of being in the middle of typhoon season. Read Less

We wanted to visit Asia for the first time - Dining room attendants and stateroom were fantastic. Very friendly yet respectful - We received stateroom upgrade- Cabin was very clean - Amenities in the cabin were in good working conditions- Inside of the ship was very clean and colorfully decorated - The embarkation and disembarkation were well organized. So they occurred smoothly - The Front Desk Staff were helpful when we had questions- They were also very effective in doing their jobs. We visited Japan, China, Vietnam and Taiwan. There were 7 ports of call - We took an excursion each port. We took an excursion in Tokyo/Yokohama as well at the end of the cruise - Places visited were .interesting, Okinawa in particular - We learned a great deal of the history of Asia - People in Kogashima went extra length to make us feel welcome. A large group pf them came to the port to wave us goodbye and release ballons and pigeons when were leaving. Downside: The temperature in the ship was too hot on occasions and the water for the shower was too hot during a major part of the trip. EZAir handled our travel arrangements- The flight times were exceedingly too long, particularly the flight from Toronto to Hong Kong and Hong Kong to Tokyo.. While EZAir might have made profit we definitely had a lot of headache. However, overall the trip was a wonderful and a very informative experience. There is no doubt we would take same again should we have the opportunity.to do so. However we would not use EZAir again. . Read Less

This was my first time taking a cruise with Princess. I selected Diamond Princess for it's itinerary and destinations, and because it fit in my prior travel plans to Tokyo and Osaka. I was traveling by myself. By booking my ANA flight using EZair, I was able to save a couple hundred dollars, still earn ANA miles and chose my seat. On previous cruises, I sailed aboard much smaller ships, so Diamond Princess seemed very large and crowded. Even on the last day of the cruise, I was still learning my way around Diamond Princess. I was surprised to find that crew didn't always seem to know where things were - for example, when asking for directions to nearest restroom, crew members didn't always know where the nearest one was. My cabin attendant was very good, timely and polite, but I was frustrated by having to go to a bar each day to pick up bottled water, because the beverage package doesn't include the bottled water for sale which is automatically left in the staterooms. I didn't like being assigned late seating at 7:45 pm - which meant supper wasn't finished until nearly 9:30 PM. I prefer to eat earlier and go to bed by 10 PM. Instead, most nights I ate elsewhere, including grill, pizza place and Horizon Court. Most of all, I enjoyed the food and service at Sterling Steakhouse and Sabatini's (2 nights in each restaurant for extra surcharge). I had fantastic meals on excursions in Kagoshima at Sengan en, at Grand Hotel in Taipei, and at the Hue Riverside Boutique Resort and Spa. My favorite excursions were those in Hue, Taipei and Kagoshima. Embarking and disembarking in Yokohama is very easy and quick, and the cruise terminal is convenient to Japan Rail. It was nice to spend a few hours exploring Yokohama's Chinatown in the morning before boarding the ship in the afternoon. Read Less
